Marta did the same thing in 2015.
Nichols was the AA silver medalist at Nationals.
Nichols wasn't injured and then went up in TF on all 4 apparatus, doing bars instead of Simone.

Raisman benefitted both times, when she was clearly the weakest on bars in both Glasgow and Rio.

Nichols was robbed of the AA final and also potentially on UB. Her 14.800 in TF would have qualified to UB finals ahead of Douglas had she had a similar routine in TQ.

You're trying to tell me back handsprings aren't absolute murder on a torn ab?

No, she says it was bad. She said shampooing her hair was painful. She says she sneezed once and started crying. Aly says she can’t understand how she did any gymnastics at all with how much pain she was in outside of the gym, and Laurie says she just got through on adrenaline because she had worked so hard and didn’t want to not compete at all.

I mean, the right thing to do would have been to withdraw the 16 year old minor from the competition entirely and replace her with an alternate. I understand why they didn’t, because it’s the Olympics, and obviously she was able to grit through it, but if anything she should have been competing on less events, not more of them plus possibly an entire extra AA Final.

Maroney had the broken toe in London, but the team needed that vault.

Especially as she could've sat out vault entirely with basically no impact on anything. No reason for her to have risked competing it in Rio at all.

That actually is really strange, her vault barely outscored Gabby’s in prelims (0.033!). Everyone knew they were going to win by 10 points. Fucking Martha.
