Rank your favorite Olympic gold medal balance beam routines this century:

Here’re my ranking:

1. Sanne Wevers 2016: one of most gorgeous bb routine all time. She dancing ballet on the beam

2. Cătălina Ponor 2004: that routine explain the reason why she has been a legend.

3. Shawn Johnson 2008: in Beijing 2008, Shawn Johnson was truly a flipping monster once she had mounted on the beam.

4. Liu Xuan 2000: beautiful routine, perfect landing.

5. Alice D'Amato 2024: the landing was amazingly perfect. But there’re some wobbles

6. Guan Chenchen 2020:

7. Deng Linlin 2012: lack of elegance and grace, not as much artistry as Sui Lu’s. A bit poor rhythm. The dance movements are quite robotic, not as graceful, elegant, feminine as Sui Lu’s.

I prefer Sui Lu’s routine.

Off topic (my apologies @MaryClare ), as she was never an olympic medalist.
Věra Černá, 1979 BB world champion, died this Monday, Sept 30. She was only 61 years old.
She had hard life, first catastrophic and career-ending spine injury just before 1980 Olympics, then brain cancer.
her 1979 champion performance

I marked the occasion by fucking up my powerpoint draft as much as possible, botching the run through, and then absolutely nailing the actual workshop presentation.
