One thing that isn’t expensive - Cal MENS gymnastics. It’s entirely donor funded. It costs the University next to nothing. That still might not be enough to save it. Cal has so many non revenue sports.

So now it is the PAC 4. The conference is basically dead.
It’s going to be interesting, and probably not in a good way for gymnastics.

Stanford could probably go independant. Not sure about the rest of them.

Hopefully Southern Utah can join MPSF so that there are 4 teams.

It would make sense for Oregon State, Stanford, Cal to join as well to make 7 teams.

Unless Southern Utah joins the Pac 12 for gymnastics.

The UC regents met today to discuss options.

The ACC is thinking about absorbing Cal and Stanford.

The word is either they will take both or neither. People are putting the odds about 50/50 this happens.

Probably by the time most people read this something else even more bizarro will happened.

Talks are in for Cal and Stanford to join the ACC.

That would leave just Oregon State and Washington State without home.
Most likely option for OSU would be to join Mountain West.

I’m actually a bit shocked Cal and Stanford weren’t wanted by the Big Ten. Beyond sports, they are both member of the Association of American Universities, which B10 considers to be a requirement to join.

Nebraska used to be an AAU member, but was voted out after Big Ten had already accepted them.

Yeah I guess Big Ten and Big 12 said no more universities.

I think it was stupid of Big Ten not to take either Cal or Stanford. With UCLA, USC, Washington, and Oregon these 6 could have been the “West Division” with the current West Division going to “Central Division” and East Division staying the same.

Then it wouldn’t really be Big 10 but Big 20.

But it hasn’t been the Big 10 since 1991! (Hidden 11 remains a shining example of clever design)

I know it’s been 14 teams for years also LOL.

Just funny that Big 10 stayed the same name but then Pac 10 became Pac 12 with Utah and Colorado in 2011.

The B1G didn’t want Stanford or Cal because their football isn’t good. Cal’s men’s basketball is also…not good.

Another reason being given is the Bay Area TV market is felt to be “overrated”.

It’s not geographically any weirder than UCLA joining the B1G.

It doesn’t look like it’s happening at this point, anyway.

Might as well from 1 league of the Big 100.

If the PAC 12 stays the PAC 4 or adds some members (highly doubt it).

One way they can keep the conference meet is if they get an affiliate member, which Southern Utah currently has no home with the MRGC dissolving.
