I cannot believe she is 50. That is epic
Living legend Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan told International Gymnast Online that she encourages fans to help her celebrate her 50th birthday on Thursday and rally her performance at the World Cup of Tashkent which starts Wednesday.
“I look forward to competing in Tashkent,” the eight-time Olympian said after competing at last week’s Asian Championships in Jecheon, Korea, where she advanced to the vault final. “So, root for me and cheer for me, and I will be very, very pleased.”

Chusovitina is the only gymnast to compete at eight Olympic Games, an astounding landmark she achieved through her performances at every Games starting with the Barcelona 1992 Olympics, when she was a member of the gold medal-winning Unified Team, through Tokyo 2020. She is also the only gymnast to be inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame while still competitively active, an honor she earned in 2017.
Although Chusovitina did not qualify for last summer’s Paris Olympics, she intends to compete as long as the sport inspires and fulfills her. She won her latest major title, gold on vault, at the World Cup of Baku in March.
This week’s World Challenge Cup that her country is hosting, coinciding with her landmark birthday, gives her fans yet another reason to applaud the ageless, appreciative Chusovitina.
“I love gymnastics, and it brings me pleasure,” she told International Gymnast Online. “Therefore, as long as gymnastics brings me pleasure, I will participate in it. I want to say a huge thank-you to everyone who roots for me, cheers for me and helps me move forward. It’s very nice. I love everyone, and I kiss and hug them.”
