I've recently seen a lot of "I'm not racist, I just think Astrid in How To Train Your Dragon shouldn't be played by a mixed-race actress because it's unrealistic. Unlike the totally authentic dragons."But my dad! Oh my God, he would never miss a chance to say "that's not how we do things in the FBI!" Come on, man, it's a show about freaking ALIENS. This is not a show exactly worried about getting the minute details of FBI process correct.
I was a massive X-Files fan as well and this is all hilarious! As a 12 year old old Brit I didn't know what the FBI was and had to ask my Dad why they were flashing badges around all the time. Imagine the essay of an answer I would have got from your Dad!My dad worked for a time for the FBI as a forensic toxicologist. This was at the height of The X-Files popularity, and as a teen in the 1990s, I was a devoted follower of the show.
But my dad! Oh my God, he would never miss a chance to say "that's not how we do things in the FBI!" Come on, man, it's a show about freaking ALIENS. This is not a show exactly worried about getting the minute details of FBI process correct. My mom finally banned him from entering the TV room on Sundays from 9-10 pm because she got sick of his righteous proclamations and me yelling at him to shut up.
Mind you, my dad was never once an FBI special agent. Never worked in the field, never led investigations. He spent all his time on the lab and occasionally testified in court. He wasn't even permitted to carry a firearm. Definitely never went chasing after worldwide conspiracies led by a small cabal of men.
But because I grew up just outside of DC, I had several friends whose fathers also worked for the FBI, including a few gun-totting special agents. We bonded over how insufferable our dad's were about how The X Files portrayed the FBI.
Whovians with convenient concepts of reality is a rich seam to mine. My sister was watching an episode with some science boffin mate, where a load of the planets disappear and move. He was doing the 'this couldn't possibly happen because' routine. Quite why that was the point he could no longer suspend his disbelief but the Abzorbaloff wasn't, I cannot say....plus of course the men who could happily accept the idea of a constantly regenerating alien from the planet Gallifrey who visits endless different galaxies in a time-travelling dimensionally transcendental 1950s British police telephone box but were ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS at the thought of said Time Lord being a - yuck - girl.
Anyway, I feel we've digressed. I'm just still cross that Covid denied us series two of My Perfect Landing.
Wow you certainly motored through it!I finished it last night.
They don't even show how the olympics go. That pisses me off.
It was nice to see Kelly Parker in a more human light.
The drugging scandal with pseudoephedrine was interesting.
Good to see Lauren back but it just feels so unrealistic that they would let her compete like that. Can you imagine the risks???
I wish we could see what happened during and after the olympics.
Glad to see Kaylie and Austin made up tho.
Yea it was kinda hard to stop watching once I started so I did like 3-4 episodes at a time haha. I even got my mom hooked on it.Wow you certainly motored through it!
I kinda get them not showing the Olympics. Budget-wise it would have been difficult and they already had their big competition with worlds. Sometimes leaving things to the imagination can work better. That said, it would have been really interesting to see what results they decided on. Since USA already won worlds in such dramatic fashion, what would their climax have been?
I’m annoyed that Lauren made the Olympic team. I felt like she deserved some comeuppance for all the terrible deeds she did over the years (yes I know she had abandonment issues but she was forgiven A LOT). While MIOBI was airing there was a lot of commentary on its sermonising fitting in with being broadcast on ABC family so I’m surprised that they gave her what she wanted as well. Perhaps they felt like they got the bittersweet with Emily’s story?
I just finished S2 and I’m not rewatching much actual gymnastics atm so that’s the first time I’ve seen Bela since he died.
