Mara Ceplinschi, Amalia Ghigoarta, Denisa Golgota, Anamaria Mihaescu and Ella Oprea are the signatories of a memorandum document addressed to the president of the National Agency for Sports, Bogdan Matei.
The memorandum contains accusatory passages against the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, led by Ioan Suciu. The gymnasts complain that the Executive Committee's decision to dissolve the national teams endangers their sports careers, as well as their studies.
What are the accusations that the five gymnasts bring against the Federation?
- They were not informed of the FRG CEX decision
- No difference is made between their case and that of Camelia Voinea
- The Federation's powerlessness and its inability to manage the problems
- Lack of a shared vision when they made the decision
- The inability of gymnasts to return to their clubs in such a short time
- The logistical barriers that each of the five gymnasts faces following the FRG's decision to disband the teams
As GOLAZO.ro
wrote here, there are big problems that our gymnasts will face. To better understand the following lines, we need to specify the following:
There are two forms, regarding schooling, with which the FRG works, in accordance with the provisions of OMEN no. 3697/1998 and the Regulation on the organization and functioning of pre-university education units.
Indefinite schooling, based on the approval of the MEC, and school transfer. Thus, school continuity is ensured, without athletes being transferred for an indefinite period, they officially remaining enrolled at a single school.
What each of the athletes are saying:
Maria Ceplinschi
If she returns to the club, she will have to train in the same gym as Camelia and Sabrina Voinea. This will cause a toxic atmosphere, similar to the one in Lia Manoliu's gym.
The gym in Constanta is not properly equipped for high performance. The floor is shorter. The landing on vault is very close to the wall which means that a small deviation can lead to an injury. There is no parallel that is on a soft training surface.
She cannot benefit from recovery and necessary medications.
The school she is enrolled in is in Bucharest and, being enrolled in full-time courses, not part-time, she cannot miss classes because then she will not be able to take the exams.
Amalia Ghigoarta
The medical rehabilitation she is undergoing in Bucharest is essential for her full recovery. The doctor explained very clearly to her that this recovery period cannot be interrupted and cannot be neglected under any circumstances. Otherwise, there is a risk that she will not be able to fully recover and will no longer be able to participate in competitions at a very high level.
Amalia is enrolled at the "Benjamin Franklin" Theoretical High School in Bucharest, and in the 12th grade, transferring mid-year is not possible without affecting her preparation for the final exams. Therefore, she cannot move from the perspective of her school career either.
In the next 2–3 months, she will have to re-enter the gym. When she resumes training, she wants to work with coaches Corina Moroșan and Sebastian Nemes.
Denisa Golgota
The athlete who had the courage to tell the press that she filed a complaint with the FRG, against a colleague who threatened to
"punch her in the head hundreds of times" , wants to continue training with coaches Corina Moroșan and Sebastian Nemeș.
The FRG's current decision directly affects her sporting career and risks undoing years of work, sacrifices and effort made in difficult conditions, with the sole goal of participating and achieving good results at the Olympic Games.
Anamaria Mihaescu
Anamaria also expressed her desire to continue working with coaches Corina Moroșan and Sebastian Nemeș.
The gymnast also complains that in the Steaua Club gym, where she is registered, there are many athletes at the same time, which makes it impossible for coaches to involve themselves in individualized training.
Ella Oprea
The gymnast would have to interrupt her school program and leave Deva, where she is a student at the "Cetate" High School with a sports program, and come to Bucharest, being legitimized at the Dinamo club. However, this would affect her preparation for the Baccalaureate exam she is taking this year.
Ella also draws attention to the fact that
the FRG's decision to disband the teams was not accompanied by any justification, whether sporting, medical, disciplinary or of any nature.
"The FRG is mocking our work"
The memorandum addressed to the ANS does not stop there. The five gymnasts write in harsh terms how the Romanian Gymnastics Federation behaved towards them.
"The FRG has not only thrown us in the trash, the FRG is mocking our work, crushing our dreams after all the years invested in this sport. Not only has our purpose and direction been taken away, but also our respect. This is not a simple administrative decision, it is about children who spent their childhood in the gym, from morning to night, about parents who stood on the roads and who believed until the end, about coaches who did not just share knowledge, but also became emotionally involved, consumed themselves, and dedicated their entire lives to gymnastics. It is inhumane to be thrown out onto the street with our luggage from one day to the next."
"The suffering comes from injustice, from the fact that everything we have built and all the effort seems to be wiped away. The real pain is feeling that you have given everything to an outdated system, which does not have the well-being of the athletes at its center, and which, instead of protecting us and listening to us, leaves us behind for no reason, without any explanation.
That we have given everything to a country that seems to be a spectator to abuses and discrimination without taking any stance. It is the cry of a generation that refuses to be treated as a burden, as a piece of an immoral system, that refuses to be abused, wronged and humiliated," the memorandum signed by Mara Ceplinschi, Amalia Ghigoarță, Denisa Golgotă, Anamaria Mihăescu and Ella Oprea also states.
