If this is a serious comeback attempt, I wonder if focusing on post-Olympic competitions would be more beneficial?
I think the main point of these high-profile comebacks is to make the Olympic team. Unless Gabby plans to stick around until 2028 Olympics, which I doubt she does.

@LT2 please can you share the list? I can't find it, checked USAG webpage, twitter, Facebook, Scott Bregman twitter and couple of others, and nothing.

USAG posted the list

I do get that, I just think she could still be successful, even if it’s not at the Olympics.

So was she hoping to go but was just not invited or did she opt out of going in the end? Feels like there is a massive difference between the two...

Edit: I see that Gabby categorically did not meet the criteria for this camp (Sunisa did).

Athletes attending camp met at least one of the following criteria:

  • Current Junior and Senior National Team members
  • Senior athletes who placed in the top 12 in the all-around at 2024 Winter Cup and achieved the U.S. Championships qualification score
  • Junior athletes who placed in the top six in the all-around at 2024 Winter Cup and achieved the U.S. Championships qualification score
  • 2020 Olympic Medalists

I'm sorry but this sport is weird sometimes. A freaking Olympic all-around champion from any year should have a much clearer route back into these events. She missed one event due to illness (regardless of the other drama) and with that alone she has so few options.

I just see a handful of non-national team members on the invite list.

Trinity Thomas (senior), finished 4th at Winter Cup, past NT member
Norah Christian (senior), finished 8th at Winter Cup
Jayla Hang (senior), finished 9th at Winter Cup, past NT member
Marissa Neal (senior), finished 10th at Winter Cup
Madray Johnson (senior), finished 11th at Winter Cup

Caroline Moreau (junior), finished 5th at Winter Cup
Jaysha McClendon (junior), finished 6th at Winter Cup

They were the top AA finishers not currently on the national team.

Names I maybe would have expected to see: Suni Lee, Lexi Zeiss, CaMarah Williams, Zoey Molomo.

Zoe Miller is MIA as well, although she's a current national team member. Guess she's still injured.

Gabby posted this an hour ago. I think this is the Charlotte airport (but not certain). Entirely possible this wasn't taken today, so proceed with caution.

So does this essentially cut any chance of an international assignment prior to Tokyo?

I suppose if she had a really outstanding showing at American Classic she could get a Pan Ams assignment. But selection for Jesolo and Pac Rims is taking place April 2 as part of camp.

Why on earth would they deny the request? Something is not adding up.
I'm trying to figure out if the Gabby Douglas comeback saga is stranger than the current Shohei Ohtani saga. I can't decide.

edited to add: my apologies if this is off topic.

Scott is also saying Gabby's request to attend camp was denied.
Well this is a shitshow.

When she was going to compete in Winter Cup, they were quick to use her comeback to generate publicity for the event yet they themselves have now complicated the process of returning. If they're allowing 2020 Olympic medalists to join the camp, regardless of whether they have competed in the years since, it doesn't make a lick of sense why they wouldn't allow previous Olympic medalists.
