If young boys are calling gymnastics a girls' sport (which of course they are, because this is the U.S. and these are young boys) that doesn't mean it's a problem begging to be solved by wearing a basketball outfit over leggings while competing as an Olympic medalist. I love Richard's gymnastics and I hope he can figure out on his own why this feels hollow and pandering.
As has been pointed out earlier in the thread, the same boys who are calling gymnasts gay slurs are also cheering while watching sports with similarly form-fitting uniforms, so it's not about the uniforms at all, rather it's about the cultural framing of a sport that's judged based on aesthetics (hello figure skating, diving, etc!) rather than by points accrued through direct physical combat, regardless of uniform (hello wrestling!). But I've now taken two gummies and that's another discussion altogether.
