Man, this is a TOUGH ROOM! And yet nobody is slamming the one I would go after first. But THAT is a rant for another day.
Re: split leaps, though:
Basically, NObody did >or= 180⁰ split leaps until 1976, when one of the GDR Olympians (and maybe a Hungarian or two) did some nice ones. It MIGHT have become a requirement by 1980. Many struggled to fully split through the 1980s, but many succeeded. Examples: Eva Kanyo, Moste, Dobre, Silivas, Popa, every single Romanian alive in the 1980s, all the Chinese, too (esp Yang Bo and Chen Cuiting.)
Hana Ricna was incredibly flexible, but was more of a straddle than a splitter.

There is definitely a really interesting way to recognize a country's suspension of a coach.

As for leaps, I'd be curious when the 180 degree became codified with deduction officially.
