Since COP, scoring, styles, and coaching regimes change and morph over the years, I’m curious what everyone’s favorite gymnasts of each quad were (ending in the Olympic year—ex: 2000 would be the quad 1997-2000)

Your cards are on the table! This list really reflects a consistent point of view and I love it. Kinsella is great in terms of technique and I can see that reflected throughout your list.

Also love our overlaps. I fought over Prod/Lobaz for 2000. Easily could’ve gone for your '88-96 choices too.

2020/2021: Andrade, Lee
2016: n/a (I was on hiatus from gym fandom)
2012; Deng Linlin, He Kexin
2008: Fan Ye, Cheng Fei, Jiang Yuyuan
2004: Fan Ye, Li Ya
2000: Kui Yuanyuan, Bi Wenjing
1996:I didn’t have a firm favorite. I really liked Khorkina ca. 1994-95, but then she started to grate on me.
1992: Lu Li, Milosovici, Lysenko, Boginksaya. Honorable mention to Dudnik; a pity her career was all too brief.
1988: Omelianchik, Silivas, Mills
1984 (because I’m old): Yurchenko, Mostepanova, Ilienko, Agache, Szabo, Stoyanova, Johnson, McNamara
1980: Shaposhnikova, Filatova, Naimushina

As you can see, I’m hard-pressed to choose just one favorite from each quad!

IratePanda, I’m loving the Agache, Ilienko, and Stoyanova love. Under-rated gems. There were seriously too many favorites to chose between during the 80s… we’ll never see another decade like it

The 1980s were transformative. Also, I’m 52, truly a child of the 80s. I don’t know how many other people here remember what it was like to read about a competition in IG magazine 6-10 weeks before any TV coverage surfaced.

Too too many in the 80s and 90s
Nadia Comaneci - first favorite
1988 - Natalia Frolova & Phoebe Mills

1992 - Dominique Dawes, Lashchenova, Strazeva, Lysenko, Chen Cuiting, Yang Bo, henrietta Onodi

2000 - kate richardson, sabina Cojacar, Tabitha Yim, Vanessa Atler

2004 - Anna Pavlova, Hollie Vise, Fan Ye

2008 - Nastia Liukin, Cheng Fei, Anna Pavlova, Jiang Yuyuan

2012 - Mustafina, Kyla Ross, McKayla Maroney

2016 - Simone Biles, Madison Kocian, Rebeca Andrade, Mustafina

2020 - Simone Biles, Rebeca Andrade, murakami mai, mdjds, Jordan Chiles

2024 - Simone Biles, Shilese Jones, Rebeca Andrade, mdjds
