I think Jessica’s side split jump 1/2 would still receive credit because she does not attain the full split position until most of the 1/2 turn is completed. If I remember correctly, there’s a certain amount of degrees / tolerance allowed as well. Here is my breakdown of her routine.

Jessica Gadirova - Balance Beam

Acro:

1 x E (double pike dismount)
2 x D (aerial, side aerial)
1 x C (layout stepout)

Total Acro DV - 1.6

Dance:

4 x D (switch leap mount, switch leap 1/2, side split jump 1/2, side straddle jump 1/2)

Total Dance DV - 1.6

CV / Series Bonus

switch leap mount + switch leap 1/2 + Korbut (D + D dance, D + B mixed) = 0.2 CV + 0.1 CV + 0.1 SB

aerial + split jump + straddle jump (D + B mixed) = 0.1 CV + 0.1 SV

back handspring stepout + layout stepout + layout stepout (C + C) = 0.1 CV + 0.1 SB

side split jump 1/2 + side straddle jump 1/2 (D + D dance) = 0.2 CV

Total CV / SB = 1.0

Dismount Bonus

double pike (E) - 0.2

CR

Dance Series - split jump + straddle jump (straddle jump + wolf jump as performed)
Turn - full turn
Acro Series with Salto - back handspring stepout + layout stepout + layout stepout)
Acro Elements in Different Directions - Korbut + aerial

Total D - 3.2 + 1.0 + 0.2 + 2.0 = 6.4

Elements or Connections Not Credited

switch leap mount + switch leap 1/2 / pause before moving into the switch leap 1/2

switch leap 1/2 + Korbut - Arm swing / pause before moving into the split jump

aerial + split jump - Balance check following the aerial

split jump + straddle jump - Balance check following the split jump

side straddle jump 1/2 - > straddle jump - 1/2 turn not attained at the beginning or end of element

Total D - 3.0 + 0.2 + 0.2 + 2.0 = 5.4 (Credited D was 5.5. My guess is that they credited the switch leap 1/2 + Korbut connection)

Deductions

switch leap 1/2
(body shape / bent knee in forward leg swing and insufficient split) 0.3

Korbut
(insufficient height) 0.1

aerial
(flexed feet) 0.1
(bent knee) 0.1
(medium balance adjustment - two small adjustments) 0.3

split jump
(body shape / insufficient split) 0.1

layout stepout
(medium balance adjustment) 0.3

side split jump 1/2
(body shape / insufficient split) 0.1

side straddle jump 1/2
(body shape / leg at or below horizontal and uneven leg position) 0.3
(landing posture) 0.1
(balance adjustment) 0.1

side aerial
(flexed feet) 0.1

double pike
(flexed feet) 0.1
(bent knees) 0.1
(step on landing) 0.1

Artistry
  • Insufficient involvement of body parts (0.1)
  • Insufficient variation in rhythm and tempo (0.1)
Total Deductions - (2.5) 7.5 / Actual 7.600

Here is what I had:

cast to handstand with legs straddled
(body posture / piked hips) 0.1
(grip adjustment) 0.1

stalder full
(angle of completion → Between 31 and 45 degrees of handstand) 0.3

Downie
(flexed feet) 0.1

cast to handstand with legs straddled
(body posture / piked hips) 0.1
(grip adjustment) 0.1

Hindorff (Based on the D score of 6.3, they did not consider the Hindorff to have momentary hang. Therefore, no DV and no execution deductions are taken other than the fall.)
(fall) 1.0

Tweddle
(lack of precision) 0.1

Ezhova
(insufficient height) 0.3

van Leeuwen
(lack of precision / 1/2 twist not fully completed prior to regrasp) 0.1

full twisting double tuck
(landing posture) 0.1
(large step on landing) 0.3

Total Deductions - 2.7 (7.3)

Love the backward roll to handstand. Would love it even more without the long pause beforehand.

Thank you for all the videos Rachel.

I probably need to re-do mine with that in mind then!

In terms of differences with yours:
  • I didn’t take the first grip adjustment. I guess I was too busy looking at the handstand…
  • I took 1 for body alignment on the Stalder full
  • I only took 1 for late turn on the Stalder full not 3
  • I took 1 for bent arms on the Downie.
  • I didn’t take the second grip adjustment - I don’t see this one?
  • I took 1 for legs on the Tweddle but now, thinking about it, are you permitted to twist with legs apart for a straddled flight element on the high bar? I know you’re allowed to do it for a LB to HB transition (like a Khorkina). I want to take for legs on her Tweddle but I don’t know, technically, where it would go.
  • I only took 1 for height on the Ezhova, not 3.
  • I took 1 for precision on the Ezhova
  • I didn’t take for precision on the Shap 1/2 (I can see why you did) but I took 1 for the very noticeable bent arm.
  • I DID take a grip adjustment here, before the dismount.
I guess that puts me at a 7.4.

Becky Downie - Balance Beam

Acro:

3 x D (side aerial, aerial, side somi)
2 x C (layout stepout, 1 1/2 twist dismount)

Total Acro DV - 1.8

Dance:

1 x E (switch ring leap)
2 x D (switch leap 1/2, side split jump 1/2)

Total Dance DV - 1.3

CV / Series Bonus

side aerial + layout are put (D + C acro) = 0.2

switch leap + switch leap 1/2 (C + C dance) = 0.1 CV

Total CV / SB = 0.3

Dismount Bonus

None

CR

Dance Series - switch leap + switch leap 1/2 or sissone + full turn
Turn - full turn
Acro Series with Salto - (side aerial + layout stepout)
Acro Elements in Different Directions - side aerial + layout stepout

Total D - 3.1 + 0.3 + 0.0 + 2.0 = 5.4

Elements or Connections Not Credited

switch ring leap / no upper back arch → credit as switch leap

switch leap + switch leap 1/2 - switch leap is considered repeated element so series is not eligible for CV

side split jump 1/2 - > split jump - 1/2 turn not attained at the beginning or end of element. I thought this looked much more like the quarter turn + quarter turn / old technique compared to Jessica

Total D - 2.7 0.2 + 0.0 + 2.0 = 4.9 (Credited D was 5.1 so it looks like they did credit the side split jump 1/2, assuming she didn’t have any counting elements before the switch ring leap)

Deductions

switch ring leap
(body shape / insufficient arch) 0.1

side aerial
(flexed feet) 0.1

layout stepout
(large balance error) 0.5

switch leap + switch leap 1/2
(poor rhythm of connection) 0.1

switch leap 1/2
(body shape / insufficient split and body posture) 0.3
(medium balance adjustment) 0.3

aerial
(large balance adjustment) 0.5

side somi
(flexed feet) 0.1
(small balance adjustment) 0.1

side split jump 1/2
(body shape / insufficient split) 0.1
(medium balance adjustment) 0.3

1 1/2 twist
(insufficient height) 0.1
(step on landing) 0.1

Artistry
  • Poor work in releve (0.1)
  • Insufficient involvement of body parts (0.1)
  • Insufficient variation in rhythm and tempo (0.1)
Total Deductions - (3.0) 7.0 / Actual 7.400

Can’t recall if this was posted but Ellie Downie has another injury (posted IG 6 weeks ago).
Looks like she will be out for some time…I wonder if this year is done for her in terms of being physically fit and competition ready in a few months.

Jessica Gadirova - Vault

Vault 1

(leg separation in preflight → appears to be greater than shoulder width) 0.3
(shoulder angle) 0.1
(failure to maintain stretched position) 0.1
(body posture on landing, chest somewhat forward and low) 0.1 ^
(large step on landing) 0.3

Total Deductions - (0.8 - 0.9) 9.1 - 9.2 / Actual 9.250

Vault 2
  • (leg separation in preflight) 0.1
  • (shoulder angle during repulsion) 0.3
  • (body alignment / insufficient stretch during flight) 0.1
  • (flexed feet) 0.1
  • (failure to maintain stretched position) 0.3
  • (large step on landing) 0.3
Total Deductions - (1.2) / 8.8 / Actual - 9.250

It wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t see her back again at all. She’s had injury after injury and so much going on. There comes a point with some gymnasts when they just can’t stay healthy enough.

I wonder if she could focus on 2 events instead of AA. Would that make a difference? Both in staying healthy and the ability to come back quicker from this injury. Although perhaps given Becky’s experience with Olympic selection, she’d be wary of dropping to 2 pieces

If Becky is doing AA again, which it seems she is, or on 4 pieces, if Ellie just did VT/FX that would be helpful to the team.
Becky had issues with team selection due to it being 4-4-3/4-3-3 now that it is 5-4-3/5-3-3
