Hopefully the fact that she's well enough to be posting photos online means it's nothing major. And also that this doesn't scupper her chances, it would be a really shit way to miss out.

Glad she’s not going to attempt to compete after hitting her head like that at least.

I'd guess so. They're all locks already and have hit the minimum scores, so there's nothing particularly to be gained from them competing if the programme haven't specifically requested it.

There will be a petition process for situations like this. There isn’t if someone was just too injured to compete at trials

There is, though having done multiple designated selection events earlier in the year she's already done enough to put herself in the pool.

The wording is:

'Gymnasts unable to compete at one or more Designated Selection Events (DSEs) may apply to
the Selection Panel for consideration of extenuating circumstances.'

If I were Ruby I'd want to make use of that, because she's not achieved the minimum performance standard score in any DSE yet (admittedly neither have most of the other contenders). She's not on the Paris roster and afaik not Szombathely either, so it looks like this trials formed an important part of her plan. There's not loads of time though, the panel meet on 16th September. Previously I think the extenuating circumstances procedure required sending full videos.

But GBR can be odd about petitions. They didn't accept Becky Downie's petition when her brother died of an undiagnosed heart condition at the age of 24 the night before trials as an extenuating circumstance IIRC

They did accept it as an extenuating circumstance. They just didn’t accept all her demands, but they did allow her to trial at a later date
