If they can all stay healthy, Ruby, Poppy and the Ropers is a really nice team. Always hard for Wales though, they are always reliant on one of England, Canada or Australia having an injury crisis, a disaster in competition or deciding to send a B team if they are to get a team medalView attachment 11578View attachment 11579
Welsh Gymnastics have released their Commonwealth long list. Not really sure what a long list is though. Is it just another way of announcing their squad? Nice to see that Poppy is planning to continue elite.
I don’t know, the fact that this CWGs is very downgraded might mean that some of the A team decide not to go for selection. Especially since it falls right in the middle of the break between euros and worlds iirc. The squad selections are definitely going to be interesting, with the new seniors and some of the ‘boarder’ England squad gymnasts. I have a feeling some may end up in their home nation squad depending on how they’ve upgraded. Ngl the way BG works all the current ‘main’ squad gymnasts are probably default spaces so there isn’t much room for anyone new
That’s late for euros. It’s usually spring timeWe don't yet have the schedule for CWG, but I believe I'm right in thinking artistic has always been towards the start? In 2022 it was the 5 days immediately after the opening ceremony. CWG is 23rd July to 2nd August. If Euros happens, the dates are 30th July to 9th August.
So it might be theoretically possible to do both. Unless the smaller games format changes things. With no rhythmic it might be different, as they sometimes use the same arena.
Ah I didn’t realise we were back to that multi sport thing. Not really sure what the point of it is? Is it just EYOF for grown ups? Is it more attractive for prospective host cities? That’s because it’s the year of the quad for the combined sports Euros (Glasgow 2018, Munich 2022). Tricky scheduling another multi-sport event (hence some sports leaving) and they’ve ended up in the summer.
There's no host confirmed yet, so it doesn't look like it. And we don't usually have a problem finding someone for gymnastics only Euros. 2027 is sorted already. I don't know whether it's the multi sport format, the time of year or both that's the deterrent.Ah I didn’t realise we were back to that multi sport thing. Not really sure what the point of it is? Is it just EYOF for grown ups? Is it more attractive for prospective host cities?
we went to lots of events at the Glasgow one and really loved it.Ah I didn’t realise we were back to that multi sport thing. Not really sure what the point of it is? Is it just EYOF for grown ups? Is it more attractive for prospective host cities?
The idea is to make it easier to sell tickets and broadcast rights as people are more likely to take an interest in a sport they wouldn't normally go and watch if it's part of a "big" event (she says, with fond memories of handball at London 2012). That said, I suspect The European Championships needs gymnastics more than gymnastics needs The European Championships. Athletics and aquatics have already jumped ship for 2026, which likely explains the lack of a host.we went to lots of events at the Glasgow one and really loved it.
