Just a few GB updates.

GBR are sending Ruby Evans, Emily Roper and Charlotte Booth to Cottbus. Both Ruby and Emily are at Lilleshall right now- no sign of Charlotte there but she has shared that she’s in Italy right now so not sure why she wouldn’t join in any recent squads. Charlotte has shared that she plans to compete internationally this season so I wonder if her bigger plans are to trial for Euros?

Other GB members who have attended squads are Ruby E, Ruby S, the Roper twins, Jess and Jenn, Abi Martin (injured), Tilly Wright, Teegan Trafford, Grace Davies, Shanna Kae Grant and Mali Morgan.

No sign of Alice or GMF at recent squads- does anyone know if they need to compete at Home Nations or British comps to retain funding? I presume that it’s different to the US system where attendance at camps is necessary to keep funding.

Grace Davies has shared that she’s going to be at DTB Pokal.

I don't think they need to compete at home nations or British this year to retain funding but probably need to attend some squads later in the year. It isn't funded in the same way as the US
Shantae - Eve Amankwaah (Bristol Hawks) has also posted she is doing DTB Pokal. I think there is probably a group of them going.

Welsh Gymnastics have released their Commonwealth long list. Not really sure what a long list is though. Is it just another way of announcing their squad? Nice to see that Poppy is planning to continue elite.

If they can all stay healthy, Ruby, Poppy and the Ropers is a really nice team. Always hard for Wales though, they are always reliant on one of England, Canada or Australia having an injury crisis, a disaster in competition or deciding to send a B team if they are to get a team medal

It will be interesting to see how Frances Stone does this year as a new senior. She has picked up a lot of vault medals as a junior but not sure if she has a second vault to continue this into the senior ranks.

The squad selections are definitely going to be interesting, with the new seniors and some of the ‘boarder’ England squad gymnasts. I have a feeling some may end up in their home nation squad depending on how they’ve upgraded. Ngl the way BG works all the current ‘main’ squad gymnasts are probably default spaces so there isn’t much room for anyone new

I don’t know, the fact that this CWGs is very downgraded might mean that some of the A team decide not to go for selection. Especially since it falls right in the middle of the break between euros and worlds iirc.

If the European Championships go ahead in 2026 then Euros could potentially overlap with the CWG like it did in 2022.

Speaking of Poppy staying healthy till then, she’s back in a boot and using crutches at Utah so fingers crossed that her recovery will go well.

We don't yet have the schedule for CWG, but I believe I'm right in thinking artistic has always been towards the start? In 2022 it was the 5 days immediately after the opening ceremony. CWG is 23rd July to 2nd August. If Euros happens, the dates are 30th July to 9th August.

So it might be theoretically possible to do both. Unless the smaller games format changes things. With no rhythmic it might be different, as they sometimes use the same arena.

That’s late for euros. It’s usually spring time

That’s because it’s the year of the quad for the combined sports Euros (Glasgow 2018, Munich 2022). Tricky scheduling another multi-sport event (hence some sports leaving) and they’ve ended up in the summer.

Ah I didn’t realise we were back to that multi sport thing. Not really sure what the point of it is? Is it just EYOF for grown ups? Is it more attractive for prospective host cities?

There's no host confirmed yet, so it doesn't look like it. And we don't usually have a problem finding someone for gymnastics only Euros. 2027 is sorted already. I don't know whether it's the multi sport format, the time of year or both that's the deterrent.

we went to lots of events at the Glasgow one and really loved it.

The idea is to make it easier to sell tickets and broadcast rights as people are more likely to take an interest in a sport they wouldn't normally go and watch if it's part of a "big" event (she says, with fond memories of handball at London 2012). That said, I suspect The European Championships needs gymnastics more than gymnastics needs The European Championships. Athletics and aquatics have already jumped ship for 2026, which likely explains the lack of a host.

There’s also European games in 2027 which already has a Host , which the European Olympic Committees are involved in. A shame gymnastics wasn’t in the last edition
