Never mind the flips, but “hearts of millions”?! Literally no one in her adopted country nor her country of birth has heard of her. She’s possibly the least memorable Olympic champion RG has ever had and 2 years on, plenty within the sport would struggle to remember her name

I live in Germany. I would definitely say that German media actually covered her quite a bit and my entire family (not gymnastics fans at all, though they are from the state she’s from in Germany) definitely knows her, especially how proud she is of singing the national anthem, which is seen as somewhat strange.

the book is of course still crazy slop, but I do think that in Germany at least, she’s put rhythmic gymnastics on the map.
