Literally none of your post makes sense. It’s not that I necessarily disagree, but I’ve read it several times now and I’ve no idea what point you’re trying to get across. It’s like you’re trying to be “body positive” whilst being critical of other people’s bodies…

My reply was because it sounded like Liv is being "body shamed" yet none of the other women that put their bodies out there in a swimsuit spread get the same hate when it is more or less the same thing... I for sure don't/didn't body shame anyone. The Simone portion I guess didn't quite belong. The moral to the story for me is that these girls taking a few pics for their recruiting shouldnt cause a distaste for anyone, they are strong beautiful hard working kids that feel beautiful and powerful putting on that leotard for a school that they could be competing for.

I think you’ve just taken the initial comment way too personally and out of context and now you’re just rambling in your overreaction because you don’t actually know what you’re objecting to.

There is a well established view that women athletes in artistic sports are objectified and glamourised in ways that those in other sports are not. It’s the reason why many people dislike the heavy makeup and blinged up leotard look. Because it presents the sport in a certain way and plays to certain misconceptions about the sport and its athletes that I think we’d all agree are negative and should be discouraged. That your daughter (or anyone else) enjoys it, feels confident, empowered etc or whatever excuse you want to give, doesn’t mean that the bigger issue doesn’t exist.

First off you don't get to tell me what i am or am not saying. There in fact isn't and "established" view.. Maybe a view that you and some may have, but established is again FAR FETCHED. What on earth does a blinged out leo say exactly? I have a daughter in the sport and she is a D1 athlete..

The girls love to express themselves with a beautiful leotard. If a pageant girl is out there doing double doubles, arabians, full-ins then wow! ha ha! What an outlook! ha ha

At the same time, you are projecting other issues onto some 16 year olds having fun on a recruiting visit. There is no need to do that either.

Why cant we just like these teenagers enjoy themselves? Frankly, they are the only people whose opinion on the recruiting photo shoot actually matter since they are the ones having it. If they didn't want that aspect of the visit or like the overall product, they wouldn't so eagerly post them on social media.

Indeed such is the paradox of Russia that if you go to a RG competition in the south, you will see lines and lines of Muslim girls who look like they’ve been styled by Liberace.

That some people enjoy doing something doesn’t mean it’s a good thing.

I would have thought it was fairly obvious that no one with an RG background would have objections to gymnasts being portrayed for their glamour rather than their athleticism. That is why I mentioned it. But it would appear I have over estimated my fellow board members ability to apply nuance.

(I agree, and as much as I enjoy NCAA, I'm glad our universities aren't funnelling that kind of resources into sports.)
