Maybe! I think China should try to maximize their medal chances on every event.

Both Deng Yalan and Liu Jinru competed at 2012 Junior Nationals. Crazy!

Zhang Qingying AA today. Very solid everywhere. I think she's punched her ticket to Jakarta. Let's just hope she hasn't already peaked.

ETA: This YouTuber has several other videos from the verification. Based on what I saw, I would send Zhang Qingying and Qin Xinyi for AA, Deng for V, and Yang for UB. Zhang and Qin both have a good shot at beam finals, and Zhang might qualify for floor, too. Much as I like Zhou Yaqin, she didn't look great here (nasty fall on FX).

If Deng Yalan makes Worlds it would be some kind of dark magic but I love it!

Yeah, I've said it before, but this is a good year for China to gamble on a V medal. I think Deng Yalan has a better shot there than Zhou Yaqin on BB or FX.

Qin Xinyi probably won't contend for medals on any event, but she's been very consistent all year, and she's lovely to watch.

Meanwhile, I'm trying not to get too excited about the youngsters competing at Jr. Nationals this week. Ke Qinqin is scary good--but I know better than to hope she'll have a successful senior career.

I'm all for it too! This is the year to be reactive to circumstances, take chances, focus on medal count. Vault is not only wide open but it's also an inherently less risky bet than beam or floor because there's so seldom a D score question. It's the event most likely to go to form.

The last time they did this and it wasn't a Simone situation, I believe it was the Morgan Hurd year. A good chance for someone who was on the bubble but is now slowly peaking!
