Giving this a 7.7 E is why USAG bars are so fucked.

I have this at a full point lower. The form errors on every single skill just aren’t being taken.

Becky Downie was getting a few tenths higher than that.

Never heard of Addy VanGrinsven until today. Not a bad showing for turning elite this year. Off to find some videos.

There’s a reason it’s a rarity in WAG, but I’d say Ponor’s was slightly better
Barely.

Amongst the dearth of Wolf Turns, i’d take that Scorpion attempt any day of the week. You’re being a purist. I’ll take what we can get ha.

And the FIG not downgrading the Double and Triple Wolf Turns (on BB and FX) will absolutely destroy the next quad. Such a huge mistake.

I feel like she's regressed from last year. Her twisting form on floor is worse than I remember. I was really hoping she'd make the jump this year.

I don’t think not wanting to see skills chucked makes me a purist. It’s like watching Roberson vault. No one is expecting everyone to do a Cheng like Andrade, but we don’t pretend that it’s pretty

The cookie cutter routine with these juniors is:

Double Tuck
3/2 to 1/1
Double Pike / 2.5
Switch Ring to (short) Split 1/1
Double/Triple Wolf (with the last half turned with the free leg)
Switch 1/2 or Popa

I’d watch 100 of those scorpion turns before any of the wolf turns at this meet.

It’s not an either or. Everyone hates the wolf turn, but they hate it in effect because it’s a Cossack that lacks the technique. Where the proper technique is used, eg Urazova, it’s a pleasant enough skill to watch.

GAGE has someone do an unusual spin, not particularly well. The wolf turn in the modern sport all stems from Terin. Let’s hope that bad scorpions don’t become as commonplace as lame wolves

I’m sorry but the quality of her scorpion is not nearly as bad as you’re making it out to be.

So looking at Sr. WAG scores for Cottbus vs. Winter Cup, the US scores are not that far out of line, except for Beam where China dominated with scores in the 14s. For some reason, Winter Cup Event finals scores are missing now, except for Vault, but on that event alone, US women would have swept the podium at Cottbus (of course I understand different competition / different judging). It's too early in the quad to be all gloom and doom.
