If it's the gold medal round the worst that can happen is silver. I think the strategy for the top teams has to be to go for your best event in round 2, and unless you are really good at beam you should leave it for the final.

I think GBR and Germany go to BB for both WAG. Jake is HB, not sure about Timo.
Morgane to FX I think and Manila to BB, again not sure about MAG, not been keeping track of everybody.

Yeah, I understand the idea of wanting to give a finals experience to gymnasts who wouldn't otherwise get one, but it's unwieldy. I could see the LA format having fewer, maybe 12 not 16.

And I'll stand by my statement: Watching a series of flat FTY is boring.

The format would be a lot more interesting to me if they picked their three apparatuses to compete on. I'd also like to see the teams be able to select their athlete--maybe require them to nominate the athletes ahead of qualifications, and then determine who makes it into the competition based on the nominated athlete's scores on their chosen events. It would be a good fit for the Jordan Chiles types

Yes - I think having 12 and eliminating 4 in each round would be less unwieldy

But I also understand having 16 to give a chance to the smaller nations
