This one is wild. For those of you who can’t read the article, basically the contours of what’s publicly known: Multiple gymnasts go to the Athletic Director for help after experiencing abusive coaching. The AD brushes aside their concerns. It turns out the AD and head coach were in an “inappropriate relationship” with each other during that time. Add in that Rutger’s head coach was making more than Michigan State’s head coach (Michigan State won Big 10’s in 2024) with much inferior results.

Whew!

Sounds like a total shit show. I guess as long as the new AD doesn't expect to be having an "inappropriate relationship" with her and the gymnasts trust/respect her, it is better than bringing in someone totally new. But if the athletes feel she was complicit, then a clean sweep is warranted.

My guess is Rutgers is just getting their ducks in a row to fire her for cause. Administrative leave is generally a precursor to that. They want to make sure it's an airtight case so she's can't sue them and so they won't have to pay out the remainder of her (ridiculously inflated) contract.

There’s something on Reddit about there being babies and young children at practice, running around, diverting attention etc

I'm all for offering some flexibility for working parents who struggle to secure childcare, but this sounds... unprofessional.

"There were three young children of coaches or trainers that were 'occasionally' brought to practice, often on Wednesdays — two babies who were unable to walk and one toddler. The environment when multiple children were present was described as 'daycare' by one gymnast ... Gymnasts recalled that the toddler would run under the equipment and down the vault runway during practice. One gymnast recalled a time when a child walked under the uneven bars and she had to stop swinging to avoid hitting him ... One of the gymnasts recalled the Team trainer taping up gymnasts while holding her baby. On at least one occasion when Salim-Beasley was pressing a gymnast to compete despite an injury, the trainer did not witness it because she was dealing with her son."
