Everything about Szabo's vaulting was wonky, starting with the run.

Laura Martinez's vault run was a tribute to Szabo.

Seriously! Why do so many gymnasts run down the vault runway like it’s their first time ever running? Is sprinting technique not taught??

So sad that Mostepanova never got the recognition that she deserved because of the boycott.

And I remain grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr to this day that Onodi gets the credit for Mostepanova's signature move. The bb competition would have been greatly enhanced by this routine.

Watching her on beam is very calming. She is one of the rare gymnasts who really works with the beam, not on it or against it.

She always had that quality. This is her aged 11 competing in London in 1980 although I'm pretty sure this is the Coca Cola International and not Champions All

Yes! I was just looking for these videos to make the same comment. It really is a shame she didn't have the opportunity to compete at the Olympics.

It's also a shame that her career petered out in 1985. She sat out Euros with an injury, and then of course she was infamously yanked from the World AA final. Her routines did look somewhat labored in Montreal TO, and Shushunova was the obvious "it" girl that year, but I'll always be sad on Mostepanova's behalf (Baraksanova's, too).

No, plenty of WAG did it in the 70s. I recently watched some vids from the Munich Olympics, and I saw quite a few wolf turns on beam.

The wolf has been with us since the 70s if not earlier. My favourites were those who had a smooth and pretty exit rather than some of the awkward transitions you see today

I don't think I've ever watched Retton before besides vault ... YIIIIIIIKES
