I think short tumbling can be impressive, staying in bounds when veering off line can be impressive, big tumbling can be impressive, tall people tumbling in confined spaces can be impressive... But they don't reward the same thing. That can be conflicting..

Simone's double double, a great example of good technique that results in efficiency of space with zero oob potential. McKayla's highlighted pass has tight technique that veers and avoids oob deduction. Aly is impressive in a different way, for keeping a restrained iconic pass often in line, while being a grown ass woman. And Khorkina somehow landed a double pike in bounds while being 18 feet tall and 65 pounds in the mid 1990s.

Should 4'8 females and Shatilov really be expected to compete in the same confined space, and why? I think you should be able to adjust the floor like you can adjust the height of the bars or vault.

This coming from a 6'3" male ex-gymnast who often competed over the actual gym floor because I would scrape the mats.
