Has always sucked, still sucks.

Sometimes I think I won’t try to attend this one as it’s a long way to go for a terrible format and it’s in a place I’m not interested by…..then I think about Jessica Gadirova coming back…..🤔

Super excited about Worlds being in Jakarta.

Super bummed about the format.

I've been complaining about it to my husband who couldn't care less for weeks lol. National Games are about a month after Worlds this time, so nothing is standing in the way of China sending strong teams. But we only get to see two of them on each event! It should just be all 3 can do AA in prelims like Junior Worlds. It's going to be even worse for MAG, send one AAer and then divvy up 6 other events between two guys. Your best specialists aren't always going to line up that neatly. Or you can send 2 AAers and that's it, no 3rd gymnast!

My native language is English, but I can't make heads or tails of this format. Is it QF/EF, or QF/AA/EF?

If each apparatus can only be used twice then one AA and two specialists seems likely. Or 1 gets left home so two can do AA.

For WAG
Gymnast A can do all of the events. Gymnast B can do two and Gymnast C can do two. OR Gymnast B or C can do 3 leaving 1 for the other. Or leave somebody at home, take two gymnasts for AA.

For MAG —6 apparatus
Gymnast A can do all the events.
Gymnast B can do all the events.
Gymnast C isn’t going.

Gymnast A can do all events.
Gymnast B and C split the other events.

I haven’t seen a format yet.

Good point. Maybe no one will want to send an all arounder because it’s easier for specialists in smaller countries to get to higher levels.

I think I’ll plan on Rotterdam or Chengdu for a trip.

It should be QF/AA/EF like usual, but with smaller teams and a max of 2 per apparatus in qualifications, similar to World Cups. World Cups don't as strict of a limit on delegation size though, the 3 member team limit makes this more difficult.

FIG hasn't published the official files for the event yet though to confirm.

let gymnasts compete on all apparatus in the qualification. And only apply country limits to finals.
That would work. I believe the reason for shrinking the numbers is to make the meet shorter, this probably wouldn't make much difference.

Agree. And allow it in team competitions as well--just make the team specify which athletes' scores will be used for the team total in advance.

Logistically there's no time to add a 5th athlete to every rotation at a team Worlds. Trying to fit all of MAG and WAG qualifications into 3 days (to keep Worlds less expensive to host) already has athletes competing up to almost 11pm at night. They would have to go back to 4 days of qualifications to fit more routines.

-- I was about to write we'll have to see how this works out at this Worlds with the schedule and if they would have been able to fit a 3rd athlete from every team in, but I then realized we already have that information. 2021 Worlds had 3 athletes per apparatus for qualifications. Looking at that schedule on the directives file qualifications took 3 days and each day was packed to the max. Those quals also had athletes competing up to nearly 11pm, all three nights!

But that means it is possible timewise to have all 3 team members compete AA and fit qualifications into 3 days. I wonder if the plan is to have qualifications at this Worlds be only 2 days? Maybe that's the real reason for the change? You're cutting 1/3 of the athletes out of competing.. that could cut 1/3 of the days.

The event dates are set for October 19 through October 25. One week.

I would assume two days of AA and two days of event finals, so three days left, but they might want a day between AA and the first event finals?

Kitakyushu2021 was October 18-24, 7 days

Mon Oct. 18 - Quals
Tues Oct. 19 - Quals
Wed Oct. 20 - Quals
Thurs Oct. 21 - WAG AA
Fri Oct. 22 - MAG AA
Sat Oct. 23 - EF
Sun Oct. 24 - EF

Jakarta 2025 is October 19-25, 7 days

No schedule yet.. but that leaves room for 3 days of qualifications, which leaves room for all 3 team members to do AA and still squeeze it in.

I wonder if they changed the format to appeal to host countries as well.
We had 26 and 27 Worlds host announced before 25 so leads me to believe the FIG was having trouble getting a host.
Granted the participation limits were set ahead of time. But also Denmark was supposed to host 2021 and dropped out which it went to Japan. But I think COVID had an impact on that as well.

Just thinking ahead to US team composition, as well as a country like Italy or even Brazil. Let's say none of the US Olympians aside from Rivera go for this. You have Rivera, Sumanasekera, Pease. Maybe? None of them do two vaults. All of them are beam specialists. But I guess no one knows who among the US A-team will continue. Anyway I hate this format!
