Louis Smith proved more adept than Beth at the ski jump, clearing 18.05 metres* in the final of series four to claim second place overall.

*The current men's world record is 253.5 metres.

I stood at the top of the ski jump used for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and said "this is absolutely fucking nuts." No way I'd ever go down one of those.

Also, I've only ever been on cross country skis.

Yup. Stood on top of the 10 m diving platform my junior year of high school. Was like HELLLLLLL NO.
Jumped off into a pencil dive (feet first). My feet stung so bad, there was no way I was going to be doing ANYTHING off there. Coach said "Oh just a simple front dive."
NOPPPPPE.

I aggravated my shoulder diving off a 3 m springboard last summer. 10m is insane. So is ski jumping and aerial. No thank you

I'm not fond of heights but I do want to jump off a 10m diving platform just to see if I can.

Let us know how that goes.

I grew up in a town that is a major feeder for the Nordic Combined team so tons of the kids ski jumped. I had zero desire to learn, ever. Those kids are bonkers. Love me some downhill but I’m gonna keep my skis on the snow thank you very much.
My husband is terrified of heights and when we were in Innsbruck we went to the top of one of the ski jumps in the summer to watch summer training and I thought he was actually going to wet himself.

Its one thing to do these exercises in the context of, and in the interest of, real military training and national defense. But for some stupid reality show?
Well isn't there a pretty common thought that elite gymnasts are fitter than Navy SEALs? (at least on the strength parts, not sure what all is included in the rest of the training as I failed to watch the show).

SAME. I went to diving camp at IU and was like hellll no. Then I watched an IU diver smack and come up coughing blood and another lost his leg on a 107C and busted his ear drum and had blood dripping down his face. DIII school for me since we didn’t have to do platform. Whew.

I don’t think Jmanda meant his leg was amputated. Maybe (hopefully!) his leg just slipped out of his hand during the tuck?

I lost my leg on a 303c off 1 m and landed flat on my back. Knocked the wind out of myself and lost consciousness for one minute. Had to be rescued from the pool.

I can't imagine missing any dive coming off 10 m.
People don't realize how deadly it can be.
