The fact that posting pics of her body as it actually exists for the gaze of online spectators is one thing, but to alter it to further perpetuate impossible physical ideals is another lol, yikes. I guess I'm super naive about these things but I thought she was at least posting real pictures! I hate this

The guardian article is fairly coherent and informed, even nuanced, and Dunne is clearly not an idiot. I for one, would much rather hear commentary from Hu on the value of a ten as it relates to her career, mastery of an event, and performance on a less competitive team, without the platform afforded to Dunne clouding the commentary. I agree with @QuietColours. It is so frustrating that shes the one with platform that even allows for these conversations to be entertained or articles to be written.

Nobody has ever believed that the Body Issue" has to do with sports. It has everything to do with sexualizing young women. The women who allow themselves to be exploited in that way have Stockholm Syndrome. And USAG and NCAA and the coaches and parents are complicit.

I think the key line in all that is "Basically, [a routine scoring 10] was good SEO". Casual observers are more likely to look at something that's been branded officially "perfect".

Also good for SEO: the three pictures of Dunne that the Guardian snuck into that story (four if you include the one plugging another piece about her).
