Every year, before the end of the year, every sports coach, sports doctor, practitioner etc has to renew their certification with RUSADA. It’s not my favourite thing to do, so I tend to complete it in small chunks. So I thought it might be interesting if I turned on the translator and posted it here for you all to see. And of course, show everyone how anti doping is taken very seriously and that fair play and sportsmanship are at the heart of sports culture in Russia.

It might be very boring, but at least you can all be bored with me.

So first up here is the online learning home page

Next we have to update all the details including our federal district and sports federation.

Let’s do some more online learning. There is a man in a cosy sweater, warning us about strict liability. As well as all coaches, all athletes over the age of 14 have to complete this course. There is an additional course for athletes in the testing pool and a separate children’s course for 10-13 year olds.

If it were me, I’d call this Raducan’s Law

Ok so this bit is quite interesting, it explains about therapeutic use exceptions. There is also a testing service run by RUSADA which allows drugs to be submit for testing to see if it’s permitted for your specific sport.
The next section, we have to complete a quiz. So make sure you’ve read through everything very carefully because you’ll regret skim reading when one day your teenage figure skating prodigy gets stripped of gold.

What is written in the yellow boxes?
The first one is a warning that any medication submitted for testing must be a registered drug by the Russian Federation. The second one is a reminder that you must enter the full name of the medication as indicated on the manufacturer packaging including anything additional like extra strength, plus etc

And of course, show everyone how anti doping is taken very seriously and that fair play and sportsmanship are at the heart of sports culture in Russia.
Could you describe how the culture has changed around this in the last 10 years?

Gymnastics is pretty much immune from foul play, but I would be hard pressed to ever trust Russia’s inclusion in a track and field event ever again after London, not to mention what went down in Sochi.

It is the same in all countrie and without it, you cannot be accredited at FIG meets. You can sign up and take it here:

Look through the menus and you'll find the relevant course for Athletes, Coaches, etc.

the course is basically to force you to read their material. It's composed of modules each which has to be completed before the next.

Each module has interactive things like dragging terms to the right container and stuff. So, you cannot just skim through it and pass.

And the test itself is not very hard, but you won't pass if you didn't remember stuff.

the bext way to do it is set aside three or so hours and just plow through it.

The first time I took it is did like one or two modules a day over a week and by the time i was finished i couldn't pass because I'd forgot the details of the earlier modules.

Screeshots are you best friend.

Whilst the courses are probably very similar, the difference here is that everyone has to take it. It doesn’t matter the level of participation or the level you are coaching. It’s not just for international competitors and their coaches.

Gymnastics definitely isn’t immune. 2018 European champion, Angelina Simakova served a 2 year ban for furosemide that only ended last year. Oleg Verniaiev served a 3 year ban for meldonium from 2020-2023.

As for the culture, well I’ve only worked in gymnastics here since 2021. Before that I was in London. But definitely in the last couple of years, anti doping education has become a much bigger deal. Since Zamo became our RUSADA rep really. There is a big emphasis on everything we do that other countries do not. Like having every single coach take this course
