I don’t think coaches are catching up to culture changes as quickly as they should. Gymnasts as adults are changing the sport as their needs change but some coaches are lagging. Coaches who can recognize that athletes should have more input as adults may need and want.

It’s been delayed. What did it say?

It said that Nemour had given the Chirilencos (Avoine coaches) an ultimatum. They had to choose between Kaylia and Elena Colas, who's been receiving a lot of extra attention ahead of EYOF this summer and her anticipated senior debut next year. The Chirilencos thought this was unreasonable, and Nemour left in a huff.

It sounds like a bad Netflix series, IMO. I'm kind of inclined to give Nemour the benefit of the doubt. Obviously, I have no firsthand knowledge of the situation. I'm just inherently suspicious of Redditors who seem to have too much time on their hands and a tenuous grasp on reality.

There was also the post by Avoine a couple of weeks ago claiming the Nemours deleted the gym's webpage and Facebook page when they left, with Mme Nemour giving her rebuttal shortly afterwards. It sounds like a right mess.

Given the source of all of of that on Reddit and how adamantly they've been convinced of spurious information before, I am taking it with a dump truck load worth of salt.

It's worth taking a look at the Instagrams of the gymnasts still at Avoine. Many of them seem to be sticking by their coaches and especially by their club.

One of the things that has many people upset is that the Spotgym article dropped just before EOYF and as a result, the Federation banned Colas's coach from going to EYOF. And so now she has to compete there without her personal coach.

And to be fair, real journalists would have approached Avoine club about the interview with Nemour and asked for their side.

My French is limited, but I don't recall that interview having any addendum along the lines of "We reached out to Avoine for comment but our emails went unasnwered". And if they had contacted Avoine, I'm sure we would have got another side to the story.

Furthermore, Sportgym absolutely should have know it was a distinct possibilty that this would result in Colas's coach being banned - because that is exaclty what has happened before.

There is no reason they could not have waited two more weeks to publish it.

Not weighing in on whether one side or the other is correct. I do wonder if anyone who ever stayed with a coach or club didn’t side with the coach or club and sided with the one who left? Not often.
