The competition featured Kaori Sakamoto's final skate and fourth world championship victory. It was a great way to end her competitive career.

I think the ice dance replay is worth watching. Laurence Fournier Beaudry & Guillaume Cizeron (FRA) won ice dance and performed way better than at the Olympics. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier (CAN) won the silver and were great as well.

A lowlight was active duty soldier Spencer Akira Howe (USA) competing in pairs.

Why would you add a snide, irrelevant, political footnote to what was until that point an interesting summary of the competition?

I think we can give the benefit of the doubt for some explanation first.
What did Howe do on the ice that was a lowlight?
Otherwise the comment will be removed.

For example, for me Amber Glenn was a lowlight because she was set up to medal in the short program and then failed to capitalize in the long program to win a medal. Same as in the Olympics. Such talent not able to come through when a medal is on the line.

Chan and Howe replaced Kam and O'Shea who were injured.

My comment was caused by how inconsistently rules are being applied across sports; I should've added an explanation there. Some other countries' athletes are being inspected for military affiliations. The USA violating the Olympic truce is relevant to sports as it affected Iran's participation in the Paralympics. I won't comment on this further.
