I really think not much is going to change this first year plus or minus. There are too many new and unknowns, so I can see many athletic departments keeping the athletics side of things frozen in place while they see what type of new revenue sources they can come up with before having to really balance the expense side of the equation

Athletic Directors don't like to cut sports.
This appears to be what's happening. We haven't heard of massive cuts.
California has no plans to cut sports next year.

Over the past three months, a number of U.S. colleges have added or dropped entire sports programs on the eve of dramatic changes coming to college athletics under the $2.8 billion NCAA settlement.

A year or two ago I heard a sports talk radio guy lamenting that the changes resulting from NIL would kill the American Olympics movement. Many of our Olympics medalists get free coaching in college but compete in none-revenue sports.

ETA: there is a lot going on with these laws/rule changes that I really do not understand and it seems that a lot of people do not understand, but this does feel like the beginning of the end for somethings I enjoy.

Clarification - from what I understand the big Title lX lawsuit regards the 2.8 billion $ backpay, not the revenue sharing going forward. The back pay part is coming from the NCAA, and will be delayed until all appeals are exhausted.

I'm sure there will be (if there aren't already) Title lX suits about the revenue sharing, which will go forward.

I kind of understand it, but really, no one does when it comes to what's going to happen.

It does feel like the beginning of the end for men's NCAA gymnastics.

Title lX makes it less bad for women's gymnastics. It sounds like a lot of mid-majors and smaller schools are opting into the settlement. Like Utah WAG probably isn't going anywhere, but some of these teams outside the power 4 might not do so well.

The Cal Chancellor did make a statement to the effect that "things would be reviewed".

I wonder if part of the reason the Howells left Cal was because House was in the pipeline, and a school like Clemson is going to be able to handle that a lot better than Cal would have.

This is a very good point I hadn't considered. Very smart on their part to jump when they did.

California has the highest athletic debt in the nation. It also has LOT of sports.
Clemson has a lot of $ and the bare minimum of sports.
I don't think the Howells left because of any immediate threat. But the future is a lot less rosier at California than it is at Clemson.
