Supposedly Neff is not going to Florida after all. Sounds like its down to Ou and Utah.

Hoping Neff goes to Utah. If they can get their VT and UB to the level of beam and floor, they’ll be a very hard team to beat.

The Oklahoma scholarship situation is always hard to figure out because they tend to have a bunch of walk-ons that compete. I could be wrong but I think Bell Johnson is a walk-on, and the chart has her on scholarship. That would get the number to 12 for this year, but they still seem to be one over for next year.

I have no idea how they would still have another scholarship available for the 2024 class unless they are throwing NIL money at gymnasts to convince them to walk on. It’s a mystery.

So often times, walk ons are exactly that, but if they contribute, which Bell Johnson does, occasionally if there is a free scholarship it gets awarded to walk ons.

IIRC Ariana Berlin of UCLA and Kelsey Erickson of UGA were both walk ons to start and ended up receiving scholarships when they became available.

Speaking of OU. I anticipate Ragan Smith going for a COVID year as well

I believe one of the 2023 OU commits has agreed to take a walk on spot instead, and that Ragan will take the extra year.

There has to be some kind of NIL money involved if Kindler’s convincing recruits to walk-on instead of trying to get a scholarship elsewhere. I hope they knew the deal when they committed.

I still don’t get how the numbers add up for next year if Ragan takes a fifth year and one of the recruits is walking on. Even if I’m right about Johnson not being on scholarship they are still at 13. Someone else must be not on scholarship.

The kid walking on will be 2 surgeries in now, and will be out this entire season. I think thats part if it. I dont think her gymnastics made it back fully after the first surgery. I think that is why she is not exploring too hard. She isnt the same gymnast she was before.

Lots of commitment news in the past week or so
  • Olivia Ahern to Auburn
  • Lily Bruce to Florida
  • Kailin Chio to LSU
  • Taylor Clark to Florida
  • Katelyn Jong to Auburn
  • Marissa Neal to Auburn
Still awaiting Avery Neff’s decision, who I believe I saw somewhere she visited UF at the weekend. I think OU, UF and LSU are all full for scholarships, so her choice must be between Bama and Utah.

It seems that Jay Clark’s solution to LSU’s disappointment in this year’s regionals was to… recruit lots of elites. Their recruiting classes of 2023 and 2024 are super elite heavy with Drayton, Zoe Miller, McClain, Zeiss, Lincoln and now Chio. I’m not sure that recruiting everyone who was once in the national team is the best way to go about winning nationals.

Neff was at UF this past weekend, and has a scholarship offer. I heard she was getting ready to turn OU down but they put the hard sell on her, visited gym and took her to dinner. Now, who knows. Good problem to have.

I’m not sure why the big fuss and announcement - from recent videos and comments I got the impression she was Skinner #2 so unless she cleans up her act like Skinner did in NCAA then her scoring ability could be iffy?

Roberson’s father went on a Twitter tantrum throwing a “shame on you” to all the Texas Universities since no Texas Universities have a gymnastics program and they were “losing another division 1 athlete”.

He isn’t entirely wrong, it is a surprise Texas or Texas A&M do not have a program.

(Except he failed to recognize Texas Woman’s University has a program, albeit Division 2).
Baylor has Acrobatics and Tumbling team.

He is totally right, but Texas and Texas AM have plenty of money to fund programs. And now that they both are going to be in the SEC, they should want to. Heck, all SEC schools should have a program.

He sounds a little over the top. Which is in keeping with the handful of articles about his daughter than I read.

Roberson’s skillset is perfect for NCAA, not so much for elite. I don’t remember her bars, but VT BB and FX should be just fine.

skill set is fine. Form and flexibility need a lot of work. Her scores rely totally on D score. Her E scores are low. Kind of the opposite of NCAA. But she has time to sort this out at WCG. She seems set on trying to make Paris so that could derail her. What she really needs is to dial back and focus on form. That isn’t going to happen if she is pushing to get back in national team and go to Paris.
