Welcome to American Capitalism. It's insane.

FWIW, my industry's professional association enthusiastically supports salary transparency in job postings. To post on their job board, or the job board of any local chapters, salary range for a position must be disclosed. I believe it's made a huge difference.

Pretty standard in the US these days. A few states have laws that you have to include a salary range in job postings, but most places can just say "Commiserate on experience" and require the applicant to give their acceptable range first, creating a fun guessing game for the person applying.
"commiserate on experience" is a nice typo with reference to today's job market

On the opposite end, I'm a hiring manager and we explicitly post the salary for each position (not even a range) as per NY State law, and people still try to negotiate and haggle and act shocked when the posted salary is actually what they would earn in the role.
