I am wondering if the coaching change Donnell made to training at EVO has helped him to develop more mental consistency in competition. This year is the most consistent I remember him being. I feel like his inconsistency and fluke errors in the past have affected his reputation but he was great all this year.
Agree with you on this: He's DEFINITELY come back MUCH stronger mentally. I watched some of his earlier competitions but this time, he looked really dialed in. He worked on his consistency, especially in the last ring handstand. On the PB, he looked really really strong eventhough he didn't medal on that event. 2028 is going to be VERY interesting.

Hasn't Donnell been a bit of a choker in the past? If he has entered a new era of consistency or ability to compete when it counts, I'm thrilled for him. I generally have counted him out because it felt like he always had issues during the big meets and, honestly, I'm not ready to write him in on my team predictions just yet. But he did great this last Worlds and maybe will give him confidence going forward.
I'll agree, having watched his previous matches, he was a choker. But for some reason, he has looked really calm the latter part of last season and entirely this season and he started really executing quite well. Time will tell but if he can remain consistent, then it's about to get very interesting.

I don't think USAG is purposefully ignoring Donnell. It's MAG, and USAG has a history of not caring about that as much as they should. No one could accuse them of ignoring Gabby Douglas or Simone Biles.

If Donnell stays healthy and comes back on FX and VT, he could be an MVP for the USA. I wouldn't call him good on HB, but he can do it.

Yul is coming back. I have a soft spot for Yul.

Oklahoma has some up-and-coming Juniors who could be a factor in 2028, so I will be rooting for them.

The Next Big Thing is going to Jun Iwai of Stanford.
I liked your post because you hit the nail on the head!!!!!!! The gymnastics publications DO ignore him for some reason....Honestly? I think that Donnell's strongest events are rings, PB and an occasional HB....Aaaaawwwww good to see Yul coming back but I'm not sure if he can really push right now...I will have to check out Jun Iwai and Oklahoma!

Re: Khoi - I heard that he was deciding whether or not to continue, so he didn't put in an injury petition for NT. As of a couple of months ago, he was reportedly still hanging out at Stanford. We should know more when NCAA starts up - like if he shows up as a volunteer assistant for Stanford. This is second-hand information, but from a reliable source.

Jun Iwai is at Stanford, not Oklahoma. I WISH he had gone to OU - his Dad coached at OU for a while.

People can believe whatever they want about Donnell being ignored. Not everyone thinks the same way (although I think most people can agree that USAG does not promote or recognize MAG enough).

I deleted a bunch of posts. The conversation was... unusual... but in bounds until a clear line was crossed, and that did lead to a ban in this case. Disappointing, because the user had started off trying to create discussion about a topic that, frankly, needs more discussion.
