It’s not that I don’t understand the social media culture or appreciate how hard the gymnasts work and how amazing they are, I love gymnastics. When I put myself in their shoes, however, I would hate it. It’s cringy to me and I would not be able to handle it. It feels fake to me.
How is it cringy? The purpose is to give these girls a fun experience of what it feels like to be in their program! Putting on that leotard is supposed to represent what it would feel like on a meet day to get ready to compete for THAT team. Kind of like a young girl putting on that wonder woman costume and feeling like a super hero!

I think flappergirl is noting that not everyone would have equal comfort levels with this sort of thing. Especially given the amount of smiling and posting for the camera involved, it could be uncomfortable for some gymnasts who are less outgoing. For her and some others that might feel very awkward.

Having my own child just go through this process as well as many of her friends and teammates, I can say not one of them find it uncomfortable or awkward. I can confidently say that for all of them it is the singular highlight of the visit. They complain when they schedule the shoots at the end of the day versus the start of the day because their hair wont be right. Perhaps there might be one or two gymnasts out there that are uncomfortable, but I am confident in saying that would be a rarity.

I do think it is the posting of the photo shoots from several schools that throws me off the most, yeah. Or when schools post them of the gymnasts visiting. It feels more appropriate for those who commit to a school.
The logistics of that wouldn't then work to have photos for the commitment announcements so you sort of have to do it at every visit.

I don't love the "glamor shots" look, they are elite athletes. It feels like it minimizes their worth to how good they look in the highly edited pics. Guess they all love it, so as long as they all have bought in and want to, whatever. Feels like it plays into stereotypes from the outside though.
I can say that my daughters photos were not edited at all... she visited a top 20 school and they got them back to her the same day and not a single touch up. Minimize their worth for taking pics? LOL that's straight up silly.

Okay, your personal experience doesn't negate the impression people who don't have your "insider" view get. LOL. And it hardly helps that one of the currently most famous gymnasts is doing betting website ads in a bathtub in the middle of a stadium for some reason. LOL. No weird impressions are possible at all from this setup.

/glad your daughter had fun

Liv is an outlier.. kind of.. i mean didn't we just see several Olympians in a sports illustrated swimsuit spread? To me a much needed view of healthy strong women that are also athletes. I mean Simone Biles just got a boob job, what does that say? I guess what I am getting to is that the majority of gymnast are strong and muscular and growing up feeling like they look like a linebacker or different than the "average" girl at school, i think it is awesome that they can put on that leotard with pride and show others that not all bodies look the same. Just a different perspective for others to think about.

Literally none of your post makes sense. It’s not that I necessarily disagree, but I’ve read it several times now and I’ve no idea what point you’re trying to get across. It’s like you’re trying to be “body positive” whilst being critical of other people’s bodies…
