2026 Winter Cup (Feb 21-22)

Early in the broadcast, Trinity and Paul said something that made me question my memory, if not my sanity. They clamed that Bullock had won UB at every competition she entered in 2025. That didn't seem right. I was pretty certain she didn't win UB at Jr. Worlds. I just checked, and sure enough, Milana Kayumova was the UB champ in Manila . Perhaps they meant US competitions? Still, how hard is it to fact-check and get things right?

Juda also said that Simone Rose was the "2025 Winter Cup Champion". Nope. That was Ashley Sullivan, as AA champ. Then maybe he meant beam, nope that was Claire Pease.

I get it was his first experience, he sounded very nervous. He needs to slow down and also less is more. He asked Memmel a question but it was 3 questions in one and then he went on a tangent about himself. Just a little basic Commentating 101 is needed.

Granted I am glad they had what appeared to be college interns on the cameras and Trinity and Paul doing the commentary. It was free to watch on YouTube instead of FlipNow.

All those years we hammered Tim and Elfi for some of their comments, but they were VERY knowledgeable about the CoP and gymnasts. How many times did Elfi remember a gymnasts' medal or accomplishments?

When you apparently do not prep or homework before sitting down in front of the mic? Pretty hard, it seems.... guess the powers that be feel that since anyone can have a podcast, anyone can do sports commentary. Don't make me wish for Al Trautwig to return, USAG...

Trautwig passed a few years ago, so you'll just get Laurie Hernandez.

Kind of a slap in the face to Ashlee Sullivan.
The entire World Team was named to the National Team except her.
Sullivan is at NCAA but so is Roberson and Blakely.

Did the others petition and she didn't?

Roberson and Blakely competed at worlds. Sullivan was "only" an alternate. Maybe she's decided she's done with elite for the time being. She wasn't even sure she was going to do elite at all last year and had seriously considered dropping back to level 10.

Betty Okino basically said during the juniors broadcast that the new cop was to make it more of a level playing field because other countries can’t tumble like the US can.

Which to an extent is true. But then china has teenagers from provinces no one has heard of who have UB routines that would anchor the US in a TF.

Isn’t it more like they are opening the door for different body types? I think it’s a great idea. There could be gorgeous gymnasts that don’t have enough power to take the power path.

No, it isn’t. There have always been possibilities within the COP for less powerful gymnasts to compete at the very highest level. Statistically it is more advantageous to be good on bars than any other event.

Gymnastics actually has a very diverse range of body types at the top level compared with most sports!

It's back with the American Cup where it originated. Nastia Liukin Cup is in the morning and AmCup is in the evening, March 7th.
