Wow! Is Deng Yalan the oldest WAG to ever make a major China team?

Yes. She's 26 this year (b. 1999). Until now, the oldest was Luo Huan (b. 2000), who made the Tokyo team at age 24. Both gymnasts competed at 2012 Junior Nationals, along with Liu Jinru and a host of other incredible talents (most notably Liu Tingting and Fan Yilin).

Fun fact: No WAG from Yunnan province has ever represented China in a World or Olympic competition. This year's team includes two Yunnan natives--Yang Fanyuwei and Deng Yalan (who competes for Jiangxi province).

Whoops, I have to correct myself. 1992 Olympian He Xuemei also hailed from Yunnan. So Deng and Yang will be the first Yunnan-born WAG to represent China in more than 30 years.

Aleah Finnegan and Emma Malabuyo will represent the Philippines at worlds.

I wonder who the other two gymnasts will be. Both Levi R - Stanford and Kylee K - Alabama are preparing for the coming NCAA season. Maybe two of the three NCAA recruits that went to Asian Champs in June? Haylee Garcia '26, Cadyn Nyland '27 or Lauren Supnet '27. Videos of Carlos Yulo's sister were posted on FB but not sure if that's for Worlds.

I think PHI is only sending 2 WAG. Not every country is sending their full quota.
Australia is sending 3 and Sweden is sending 2.
