I've been to Singapore, and I didn't want to leave. Or, well, my next destination was Cambodia. I wanted to go back to Singapore and stay there. So I get it.

I loved Singapore when I was there. Granted, I was just visiting and I know that's entirely different from living and working there. FWIW, a former coworker lived there for years in her youth (military brat) and she still wishes to move back.

Stanford is basically an Ivy. I doubt anyone in Singapore would have a problem attending. She doesn't sound interested anyway.

I have just realized that Malone’s gold makes him only the second U.S. male to win gold on the same event (Thomas, FX, 1978, 1979). I think he is also the first U.S. MAG to win three medals on the same event.

Rewatching some routines this morning - Sabrina Voinea could probably claw back the couple of tenths she needs to break the 4th place curse without even changing anthing about her own performance just through better music selection. Her current music is basically background music, and it was particularly obvious in this final where every other gymnast (whether you liked their choreography/dance or not) showed a much clearer connection between movement and music. She has the ability to perform a charismatic routine, but that was lost yesterday because there really wasn’t much she could do with that music.

It was nice to have a floor final with no disjointed music cuts too. Clever splices of two different pieces of music can work well, but for a while we were trending towards ‘greatest hits’ edits where a bunch of different pieces were disjointedly attached to each other in a way that made no sense (and didn’t sound good) if you didn’t happen to be familiar with the musician’s catalogue. Works for NCAA when everyone knows the music, doesn’t work for elite when the context isn’t necessarily clear.

And…I turned to YouTube this morning to find individual routines to rewatch, and then ended up scurrying back to Eurovision sport. Love or hate Olly, at least he’s quiet during floor routines. I couldn’t watch the BBC floor routines, the commentary was so loud and constant that I couldn’t hear the music and it distracted from the routines. I much prefer the silence during floor and the analysis during the replays. And last night’s Eurovision commentary was great. Olly was enthusiastic without going overboard, and the gymnast commenting with him (Sophia something??) was knowledgeable and articulate.

Exactly. Everyone on Twitter moaning about Voinea coming in 4th - they all ignore that she had by far the worst artistry in the final. And she's not even getting the upper body or lower body extension tenths. It's all just empty armwaving and backward steps into the corners. She's not even trying. She only needed to add a simple piece of complex choregraphy and she would have medalled.

Her face in the kiss and cry area made me not like her.
