Dulcy very much exceeded expectations this year, and I'm really hoping she can keep building on it. Making three finals is hard and exhausting, so this was a great learning experience. And she was very well placed in quals--she just needs to learn how to continue that energy going into finals (and none of her finals performances were bad, they just weren't as good as quals when she wanted to keep improving over the competition)

I hardly consider AA finals and two EFs a bummer for someone who was widely considered to have zero chance of even making the team as late a the afternoon of September 30.
Agreed. If you’d told her 13th in the world and two EF at the start of the year (or 30/9 as RedBirdie points out), she’d have taken that in a heartbeat.

Voinea is one of the only athletes, ever, I find myself rooting against. Between the chucked gymnastics and sloppy form, the attitude, feelings from her mother, her position with her Federation, her behavior during the bronze debacle... It's not all her fault (she can't help her mother; she wasn't responsible for how the Romanian Federation treated her teammates). But just, everything about her leaves me hoping anyone else makes the podium. I'm not tagging her in hate post on Twitter, just quietly rooting for literally anyone else in the final.

Just caught up. My GOD, what a vault final. Philip Pines, erm I mean Carlos Yulo is incredible. I love Davtyan too.

Beam final was a real win - yes, some falls, but the winners hit by virtue of really hitting, not just surviving. I was so impressed by Amanda Yap, I had no idea what to expect from her. Her polish was quite impressive.

Floor, eh.

Not really the same thing. Baitova was always 4th because she couldn’t beat her own team mates
Yeah, that was more a testament to Soviet depth than anything else. Baitova was excellent in every way. Voinea is just her own worst enemy.

I agree 100% with @QuietColours . I don't wish Voinea any harm. I just want literally anyone else to beat her. I've also taken a much dimmer view of her mother's career. Mama Voinea was never my favorite Romanian, and now I like her even less. So she could breakdance, big deal. That FX hasn't aged well, and she was pretty meh on the other three events.

Caylor took out the L turn on beam, right? It always looks so tentative. I wonder if she could pull off a Y turn, her Memmel is pretty decent on floor. I worry she's maxed out at difficulty across the board and won't really be able to hang on past this year when others enter (or re-enter) the conversation, but I've said the same thing about Wong, and she almost won the whole thing.

I’m really glad that 17 is not considered an old lady now in WAG. Dulce could be a player in the next few years.
As long as she doesn't immediately hie off to college and stop progressing. I guess at this point, it might behoove Florida to hire an elite coach... though you can't complain about their ability to get their gymnasts on the team and close to the podium.
