I had a kid do this at level 9 regionals! Got all wigged out, hit the board and jumped up on the table. First event, first vault and a 0. Thankfully we get 2 vaults and count the best one. I was thinking, dang, after all this work and stress, Nationals will be out the windows after 1 event. Luckily she nailed the 2nd one, won vault and made Nationals. I had never seen anyone do anything like that at a meet 😄

Read through and agree with a lot of what y'all said while I was sleeping in, lol.
Men's floor- excellent final, wow, thoroughly enjoyed
Women's vault- Literally half wtf and all glacially paced judging. They should know these rules, it shouldn't take 10 years to score them. I feel like the placements are correct. Roberson pulled out the best vaults I've seen her do all year, I honestly like the Mustafina for her instead of the Cheng or Lopez. I felt it was rightly placed over Vaelen on difficulty alone. I could watch Fontaine's Lopez all day! Melnikova deserved the win since she did her Cheng with two hands.
Men's pommels- also loved this final! I love that we're seeing the future of this apparatus in younger competitors. All the men's finals today were so good...
Women's bars- Kaylia was so far and away the class of the field. Loved Kate's routine, I feel like noone has an excuse for a bar-scraping Tkatchev after that! I felt Skye was sufficiently cleaner than Melnikova that on a surface level judge I have the placements different, I need to go back and score it properly.
Rings- So happy for Donnell! He really deserved this win, that's the best I think I've ever seen him compete.

Just finished watching the (painfully long) replay. Not looking forward to staying awake until 7am tomorrow, hopefully tonight moves along a bit faster.

Absolutely gutted for Deng Yalan. She had literally just done the vault in warmups. This was probably her only chance. At least she has National Games in just a few weeks for a chance at redemption.

China won 3 out of the 4 medals I was hoping for today, not bad. Thankful Yang Fanyuwei didn’t fall.

The Fujitsu award made no sense.

I teared up watching her. She's waited so long for this chance. I can only hope she gets another chance in the future.

I peeked at the Baidu gymnastics forum, and some people are eviscerating Deng Yalan. Give the poor woman a break, ffs. Shit happens. The most important thing is that she wasn't injured.

I'm willing to give her a lot more grace than I'd extend to Ou Yushan or Huang Qiushuang.
It's weird, but I feel like every time someone posts about reactions in Chinese media or social media, everyone is going after the gymnast for failing.

Then I wondered — is that pattern true elsewhere? Must be, right?

I for one was glad to see that Josc won Bronze on Vault. I did not see the competition because I am too busy at work, but I really am happy for Josc.
I've come to this point of view as well, and I think that a single World bronze medal on vault is a good long-term way to remember her gymnastics, unless it changes...

I mean, it is a gymnastics forum, they are likely the only ones who care. In the US, when Simone pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics, you'd think she had betrayed the country the way some types acted. Everyone from Charlie Kirk (who called her a shame to the country and a sociopath) to Piers Morgan had something to say about a sport they didn't give a shit about 10 minutes previously.

If the athlete goes over and punches one of his/her competitors in the nose or says something racist, yeah, feel free to go after them but short of that, the number of people who forget that these are humans. Like do they think she purposely messed up? She really didn't want that medal she had worked years for? It is insane.

My god, that vault final, I don't even know how to feel. Crushed for Deng. Thrilled for Fontaine.

Sad for Schonmaier, but also kind of impressed by how good the postflight was? Based on what we saw in podium training I expected it to be somewhere between hideous and dangerous. If she can sort out the half on (and I'm not sure how big of an "if" that is), that could be a really good vault.

At least bars was pretty straightforward. I was literally laughing by the end of Nemour's routine, it's just absolutely ridiculous how good she is.

Update on Zója Székely.

Through Google Translate:

We reported in Origo that Zója Székely finished 8th on the uneven bars at the World Gymnastics Championships while competing with an injury. In connection with the incident, Zója Székely, who chose to jump off the original hurdle despite violating her coach's instructions, paid a heavy price for her indiscipline, collapsing upon landing and unable to get back on her feet. Now, she has spoken out about her condition.

Zója Székely stated that if it were up to her, her knee, which she injured at the World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, would recover quickly. "I have pain in my leg. I still need to have a thorough examination at home to see exactly what the problem is and where I need to go with the rehabilitation, but I am absolutely fine in my head and I am very confident. I feel that if it were up to me, I would recover quickly." the 22-year-old athlete said on Saturday on the M1 current affairs channel.

Zoja Székely did not give up the tournament even though she was injured.

Zója Székely suffered a bone bruise in both knees during the individual all-around final on Thursday and was unable to finish the competition. Despite this, she took on the uneven bar final on Friday, in which she aimed to perform a modified routine. The 2020 European Championship silver medalist ultimately decided to finish the routine with her original dismount, but was unable to finish the landing, finishing eighth.

“The thing is, I often have a problem with my temper. I am an athlete, my personality is like that. I felt that I had a good practice behind me, and we have very, very little time to make decisions at times like this.” she said. She added that she made a split-second decision before the dismount, and although it is very easy to consider it in retrospect, she simply could not resist trying. “I would be lying if I said that my leg was not worse than the day before. That landing definitely worsened the position of my right leg, but I can’t say for sure yet.” said the FTC-Telekom gymnast.

She emphasized that she will definitely receive proper care at home and be surrounded by a proper team, which is why rehabilitation is already being planned, which she would like to start as soon as possible. Székely stated that she will travel home not completely sad, but with very mixed emotions, because she has been through both heaven and hell. On the one hand, an injury never comes at a good time, and on the other hand, she achieved something superhuman by becoming a World Championship finalist in both the uneven bars and individual all-around.

This is all true, and the simplest way to start is divide all the D-scores by 2 before adding. That makes the 2.2 difference a 1.1 difference.
Halving the current D scores creates many problems. Then you're in a situation where an Amanar becomes only a .2 upgrade over the DTY, when it's already nearly extinct. The whole table of values needs to be rewritten, like:

FTY = 2.2
1.5 = 2.6
DTY = 2.9
Amanar = 3.4
YDT = 3.7
YDP , TTY = 3.9

Podkopayeva = 2.3
1/2-on Full off tucked = 2.5
Lopez = 2.6
Mustafina-Nabieva = 2.7
Khorkina = 2.8
Maroney-Izbasa = 3.0
Cheng = 3.3
Biles 1 = 3.7
