I had a kid do this at level 9 regionals! Got all wigged out, hit the board and jumped up on the table. First event, first vault and a 0. Thankfully we get 2 vaults and count the best one. I was thinking, dang, after all this work and stress, Nationals will be out the windows after 1 event. Luckily she nailed the 2nd one, won vault and made Nationals. I had never seen anyone do anything like that at a meet 😄

Read through and agree with a lot of what y'all said while I was sleeping in, lol.
Men's floor- excellent final, wow, thoroughly enjoyed
Women's vault- Literally half wtf and all glacially paced judging. They should know these rules, it shouldn't take 10 years to score them. I feel like the placements are correct. Roberson pulled out the best vaults I've seen her do all year, I honestly like the Mustafina for her instead of the Cheng or Lopez. I felt it was rightly placed over Vaelen on difficulty alone. I could watch Fontaine's Lopez all day! Melnikova deserved the win since she did her Cheng with two hands.
Men's pommels- also loved this final! I love that we're seeing the future of this apparatus in younger competitors. All the men's finals today were so good...
Women's bars- Kaylia was so far and away the class of the field. Loved Kate's routine, I feel like noone has an excuse for a bar-scraping Tkatchev after that! I felt Skye was sufficiently cleaner than Melnikova that on a surface level judge I have the placements different, I need to go back and score it properly.
Rings- So happy for Donnell! He really deserved this win, that's the best I think I've ever seen him compete.

Just finished watching the (painfully long) replay. Not looking forward to staying awake until 7am tomorrow, hopefully tonight moves along a bit faster.

Absolutely gutted for Deng Yalan. She had literally just done the vault in warmups. This was probably her only chance. At least she has National Games in just a few weeks for a chance at redemption.

China won 3 out of the 4 medals I was hoping for today, not bad. Thankful Yang Fanyuwei didn’t fall.

The Fujitsu award made no sense.

I teared up watching her. She's waited so long for this chance. I can only hope she gets another chance in the future.

I peeked at the Baidu gymnastics forum, and some people are eviscerating Deng Yalan. Give the poor woman a break, ffs. Shit happens. The most important thing is that she wasn't injured.

I'm willing to give her a lot more grace than I'd extend to Ou Yushan or Huang Qiushuang.
It's weird, but I feel like every time someone posts about reactions in Chinese media or social media, everyone is going after the gymnast for failing.

Then I wondered — is that pattern true elsewhere? Must be, right?

I for one was glad to see that Josc won Bronze on Vault. I did not see the competition because I am too busy at work, but I really am happy for Josc.
I've come to this point of view as well, and I think that a single World bronze medal on vault is a good long-term way to remember her gymnastics, unless it changes...
