So that's two NCAA stand-outs in the PH final!

Daniel Marinov (unassociated athlete, but from Russia) made 3 event finals and qualified 4th AA with his bizarre little rings routine.

Many of the other top AAers — except Noe Seifert of Switzerland, who's sitting in 2nd, much to my surprise, honestly — apparently fell somewhere... Hashimoto on floor (and high bar, too??), Zhang Boheng on high bar, Shi Cong on vault, Barajas maybe multiple places?

Six in the end. I expect they're fairly pleased with that, albeit nobody saw a GB MAG free vault final coming. Poor Courtney, he was still in 8th place until the very last routine of qualifications!

Its not just Simone retiring though. If we had the 2012 Olympic Team -- Gabby, Aly, Jordyn, Kyla and McKayla -- at Worlds this year I do not think we would be thinking the men will medal more than WAG.

• An additional 12 gymnasts were reserves. None of these were reserve for more than one event.

That's SUCH a STUPID FUCKING RULE.

First of all, why is there no piked version to downgrade it to? So you bend your hips a bit and it's a loss not only of 0.5 in the E-score but also a loss of about 0.6 for the element (compared to an A they sub in)? That's not ACTUALLY a large error. It should be a 0.1 or 0.2 downgrade. or a 0.1 or max 0.3 deduction. THAT'S IT.

I am not a violent person, but even I want to punch the face of the fucking moron who created that rule. Because that is a REALLY stupid person.

Agreed. And I don't think this YS WAG team would have been even second string in 2012. They obviously love the sport, but they are extremely beatable. If they win any events, it's because they got a LOT of help.

No. Biles would probably win five medals, which is the absolute most that the MAG team will achieve. But Biles could easily end up being the only US WAG medalist in that scenario as well.

It's the US Men's time to shine. To be honest, I don't think the US women will ever reach the heights of the 'Simone years' for a long time. The Men's team is pretty deep when athletes like Fred have been left at home.
