Bummer that the Pacific Coast Challenge with Cal, UCLA, Oregon State and the Nashville Invite with Oklahoma, Auburn, BYU, and Nebraska have no TV or live stream at all. Its freaking 2025 people!!!

Absolutely insane that there's no coverage. And God knows we cannot trust the scores from a Tennessee neutral site meet.

LSU looked really solid last night. Haleigh Bryant is resting an injury so was out of the meet.
Kailin Chio will be an absolute NCAA star and had an incredible first meet. Aleah Finnegan looks the best she has ever looked IMO. Once they have Bryant back, these three all arounders will be a 1-2-3 punch for the Tigers. It is nice they have the depth they do. Weird only seeing Kaliya Lincoln on VT and Lexi Zeiss only on UB, considering their AA talent. Nice to see Olivia Dunne compete on beam for the first time in 5 years, she looked great.

Iowa State looked a little weak on bars and vault but made a nice comeback on floor and beam. You can see the impact Ashley Miles-Greig and her coaching staff have had on the team and they will continue to improve for sure.

LSU is legit this year. I agree, Chio is going to be a absolute star. Her gymnastics is meant for college. I did flinch when Konnor sat low on her bar dismount coming so early from her achilles tear. I hope LSU enjoys every moment. This is their time with that senior class.

I see UCLA is still a mess.
They weren't that bad looking at the results, just had a bad bars rotation. Campbell and Malabuyo both fell, they usually are very consistent. Barrios debuted and had a 9.550 so could be first routine nerves.

Interesting that Oklahoma who never really used to use all arounders very much 10-15 years ago, used 5 in their meet. Davis, Bowers, Fatta, Pederson, Torrez.

Fair enough. It might be too premature to call them a mess. I'm still adjusting to the tighter scoring.

Welp week 1 (or week 0 since not everyone competed?) in the books. I am curious how people feel about various squads and what they saw/heard. I was able to catch a good number of meets including the gym dawg debut, My thoughts:
  1. Just cruising, life is good, no worries here:
    1. LSU
    2. Oklahoma
    3. Utah
    4. Cal
  2. So life has its ups and downs, one hiccup doesn't define me, but maybe I should be a little worried
    1. Michigan
    2. UCLA
  3. I got that lovely caramel chocolate from the box of chocolates what a pleasant surprise
    1. Michigan State
    2. Missouri
    3. NC State
    4. Denver
    5. Oregon State
  4. Where is that panic button?
    1. No one yet, but got my eye on Michigan, that was a rough opening. I didn't get the benefit of seeing UCLA so just going by scoring and commentary.
Overall, other than Michigan and UCLA raising eyebrows and OU flirting with 198 on the first meet, nothing too remarkable. LSU I dare say looks better than they were last year and all their hard meets are at home, sooo, the Tiger-stans are going to have a hell of a year. Michigan looked really unprepared with struggles in all 4 events. Georgia in their debut looked solid but not fantastic as if they are going to have that big leap that some seem to expect. Lilly Smith is hurt unable to tumble, coming back from injury. Eaker is out of shape and is not looking to be a significant contributor. Addy Wahl looks ready to compete and some of that massive freshman class will be solid. We will see with the first real dual meet.

Did others see different things?

I loved watching Denver! Other than that beam rotation and the fall from Mabanta on floor, they looked good.

Sacramento State had a great start to the season with a 194.700.

Denver looks good as well and will only get better.

It is going to be a dog fight again to make it to the top 36.

It took a 196.400 NQS to make it to regionals as a full team, likely will be about the same, though could depend based on the new rule for scores over 9.800.
