Women’s results. Also very competitive even without Vasilieva, Kayumova and Gainulina. Plus Listunova not doing AA.
Glotova did well considering she is not yet back at full difficulty but Roschina’s E scores are diabolical. I cannot see how she is useful for international competitions

Some vault specialists of note. Alesya Branitskaya (Rostov) 2nd and Alexandra Anufrieva (Smolensk) 3rd. Both have handspring rudis, a little messy but rotated and well landed. Branitskaya better potential as her FTY looks very upgradable, where as Anufrieva has a Tsuk full 2nd vault.

Some Russia Cup musings/gossip now that I’ve caught up with some people who were there.

Big surprise that Melnikova won no titles although it’s a good sign of the overall depth and strength of the programme even with the absence of Vasilieva, Kayumova, Zelaeva and Gainulina.

The new RGF head, Dmitry Andreev held a meeting with judges and coaches. He wants routines judged even more strictly than they would’ve internationally. As a result, every single E score except for one of Melnikova’s beam performance was under 8.

Like most top programmes, the first year seniors are mostly still very juniorish and not at all ready for senior international competition yet. But ones to look for are Alesya Branitskaya, Varvara Belova and Varvara Demyanova.

Barring any injury, Melnikova, Kalmykova and Roschina are locks for euros. The rest of the team could be made up from any of about 6 gymnasts
