He's on the worlds delegation along with Ilia Malinin and Andrew Torgashev. We'll see if he has properly broken-in skates by then. First alternate Camden Pulkinen should keep his bags packed.

I always felt sorry for maxim Naumov. twice in 4th place.

If Ilia gets 1st or 2nd, then Andrew Torgashev needs to be either 11 or 12. At that point, the third US man just needs to make the free skate. Jason, even with a horrible season, did that 3 out of 3 times. Camden did it 1 out of 3 (and he has a full-time job so he’s not training fully). I know USAG is hoping the boot thing can be figured out.

Isabeau is a completely different story. I really don’t think she’s close to being healthy.

holy cow. Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were on the plane. Was Maxim not travelling with his parents. This is horrible and horrible for him. this is what I found. Some Russian news agencies reported that Shishkova and Naumov’s son Maxim Naumov, who competed for the United States, may have also been on the flight, but the Daily Mail quoted another competitor, Anton Spiridonov, as saying he had seen the younger Naumov fly out two days earlier.

sorry also found:
Russian world champion figure skaters Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov are among the casualties from the devastating plane crash in Washington, DC, according to Russian state media.

Their son, Maxim Naumov, is also feared to have been on board.
Russia’s Mash news outlet published a list of 13 skaters, many of them the children of Russian emigres to the US, who it said were believed to have been on the plane.
Inna Volyanskaya, a former skater who competed for the Soviet Union, was also reported to have been on board, TASS reports. She was a coach at the Washington figure skating club, according to its website.

The US figure skating governing body confirmed that athletes, coaches and family members were on the plane, returning from a national development camp and the championships in Wichita.

more recent news:
'The couple was returning to DC from Wichita after attending a skating championship on Flight 5342. However, their son, Maxim Naumov, 23, who is a prominent skater for Team USA was not travelling with his parents despite competing at the US Figure Skating Championships in Kansas City.

Deaths of Shishkova and Naumov senior are being reported in media here. No mention of Maxim being onboard. Surely it’s not hard to confirm his location? We hope and pray.

Perhaps this incident needs a separate thread to the competition

RIA Novosti is quoting John Maravilla as saying what I would translate as “it is not my place to name anyone, but there were around 14 skaters plus parents and coaches on that flight”.

Apparently there had been a development camp following the competition.

It is for obvious political reasons, front and centre in the Russian news.

The crashed happened right about 9 pm local time. I forced myself to go to bed at 11:30 and hadn't seen the news of Shishkova and Naumov. I have friends who work for local DC news organizations as well as DC Fire and everyone's been working frantically overnight, but because it's overnight it's been challenging to coordinate and get ahold of people. I imagine we'll know more about the younger Naumov's whereabouts soon, as well as who else associated with US Figure Skating was on the flight. I assume they were all with Washington FSC.
