Suni's been pretty clear that she's done-done. She proved what she had to prove by coming back in 2024 and getting another AA medal, but gymnastics hurts and because of her kidney conditions she's not able to take pain killers.

Normally I'd say Carey and Chiles would also be done after two Olympic cycles, both of whose second Olympics was very much in question at some point in the quad, but there's a big talent gap between the top group and the rest and both of them would still be very competitive.

This is my recollection as well. She's definitely on a (much deserved) break right now and hasn't made any announcements beyond that.

No decision yet about LA. I think all this makes a lot of sense. She's not had any sustained time off since 2017, and there's no reason whatsoever to make a decision about 2028 for ages yet. In terms of the impact on the US team for Jakarta, potentially good news for Roberson?

Nothing official from Jordan afaik, but the longer it gets the less likely it seems.

In terms of LA, I think with a home Olympics all bets are off.

Agreed re: home Olympics! Chiles has been able to stay healthy and retain her skills for ages now, so I wouldn't be surprised if she'd try to capitalize on the many advantages (financially and otherwise). I also wonder how much of a motivator finally making a major AA final would be, after missing out in 2022 following her beam disaster in qualifications and then just barely being edged out by Lee in Paris. (One tiny correction in her AA program in qualifications and then a slightly better landing on her double layout in floor finals would have made her Olympics quite different.)

Absolutely. I did wonder if the missing AA medal might even tempt her back this year, since the field is so wide open. But it seems unlikely now.

As an American, Olympics held here in the USA.
As a UCLA Bruin, Olympic village is UCLA campus.

I don’t think Jordan is done with elite. The bronze medal debacle has left her with something to prove I think. But I guess in the short term, the bigger question is the coaching situation, where will she go?
