feat. special guest Kaylia Nemour.

Esposito was there but only did beam, and she didn't look particularly sharp. I guess that confirms the reports that she's taking a break. By contrast, Alice D'Amato looked considerably improved over her performances earlier this year. Perrotti looked fantastic as well. Unless things shift radically in day 2, I suspect those two will be the AAers at Worlds. Asia D'Amato looked pretty good, though she had a couple errors on beam and bars and didn't stand out on any single event. I'm pretty sure she didn't do a second vault. Iorio and Maggio competed, but only on bars. I think Tonelli also only did bars.

Unless I missed something, I suspect the team will be Perrotti, D'Amato^2, and Fiorvanti. They have multiple possibilities on beam and bars, Fiorvanti has by far the highest potential on floor, and they don't seem to really have anyone for vault finals at the moment.

ETA: E-scoring seemed very soft compared to what we saw two weeks ago in Paris, I wouldn't take the scores overly seriously.

Villa and Andreoli were in the arena doing interviews. Are they retired? I've been low-key assuming that Villa is, but have no idea about Andreoli.

Just watched the routines and she should easily be in contention for an all around medal. Rivera, Esposito, D'Amato, and Andrade all out of the AA race is going to leave it wide open. I said a few days ago that we're probably going to have a weird winner and I think now it's absolutely guaranteed.

Did he specify why Alice isn't going?
Yes. Long term goal is LA 2028.

It's either Tonelli or Chiara Barzasi going with the other three.

Barzasi, Asia, Perrotti, Fioravanti

Tonelli has a light foot injury and will probably stay home.

Based on what I saw yesterday that seems wise: there was quite a drop-off after the top four. And I don't think they can necessarily rely on Maggio or Iorio to get back to full strength.

I'm bummed that Italy is not cashing in on easy medals this year, but admittedly this does appear to be a wise strategy. And probably a good sign for a team that has had a lot injury issues in recent years.

It's interesting, because that's not what they did last quad at all. I wonder how much the 2022 push, not just from them but generally, was inspired by the lack of Simone and Russia meaning medals were all of a sudden much more available.
