Hate that format. It should be 2 male and 2 female gymnasts on each team, with each gymnast competing 2 events of their choice (without overlapping).

Will gymnasts be able to politely decline their spot to the next gymnast if they feel it won't help them in AA and EF (where applicable). You really don't want your top gymnasts involved. If a gymnast who qualifies declines the spot for any reason other than injury, the country forfeits the qualification and it goes to the next country in line.

The gymnast would have to also withdraw from all other finals for the mixed team spot to go to another member of their federation.

I believe they stuck it in the middle of the schedule vs being after AA/EF to force this point. The FIG appears invested in making this event a success and it’s more of a selling point if they can blackmail encourage the top gymnasts to participate.

Yeah, I think this is totally insane. We already know the athletes are exhausted the more event finals they qualify for these days.

Netherlands and Ukraine didn't have a gymnast compete VT/BB/FX so both won't qualify for the mixed team. Just so silly.

They do not need two vaults to qualify. If they choose to compete vault for round 1 or round 2 they only need to compete one vault. However, if they save vault for the medal round (3 or 4), then it needs to be two vaults.

So if you only have one vault you just need to make sure you use it as your chosen apparatus in one of the first two rounds.

Beam is where rings and horse are.
Pbars and High bar are where unevens go.
Vault is only for women so they don't have to change the setting.
Floor is floor.

Apparently they could not fit them in the arena all at once?

The IOC are really pushing mixed events, they will absolutely want all the big names in it. They aren't holding an extra event at LA 2028 for USA WAG to send their third or fourth best gymnast.

Agree with most of the criticisms, but since qualification round is acting as team finals, gymnasts in the mixed event aren’t doing any more rounds of competition than they would at a usual championship event with team finals, right?

Is there any indication if rules will be similar At LA 2028?

Also depends on what your best events are, if you're the top AAer for your country but your best event is UB (someone like Nastia or Qiu Qiyuan), you may not be the Mixed Team qualifier.

Someone like a Sacramone or Cheng Fei who doesn't even compete AA could be the Mixed Team person. Like Sabrina Voinea here.
