are there any preliminary rankings so far on the apparatus world cup series

Agree, this is really helpful. Thanks. It'll be a great resource as I spend the next few months constantly forgetting.

Just thinking, could we, and I use that whilst not expecting to make anything resembling a useful contribution myself, also have a shortlist of who's eligible for the continental spots and who's excluded? Obviously we all know countries with a full team can't, but beyond that it's more complicated.

For example, am I right in thinking no Mexican WAG can qualify through the world cup route now, because they already have three spots via AA at worlds, team ranking at worlds?

And then because Germany and Hungary already have three from worlds, they can't do the continental route at all?

Yes 15 NOCs no longer can go for any Olympic slots.
They have maxed out via AA+1, EF+1, and 13-15th placements +1
Germany Schafer (AA), Voss (FX), TBD
Mexico Moreno (AA), Sandoval (UB), TBD
Hungary Czifra (AA) Bacskay (VT), TBD are maxed out.

Spain is the only other country to have more than 1 slot right now.
Petisco (AA) Perez (BB), so they are eligible for one slot only.

Not sure if this is the sort of thing you were looking for.

But, with thanks to user bretonstripes on Reddit for putting together a spreadsheet of this year's scores, I present the top 5 scores from World-Cup eligible gymnasts at FIG Group 2 and 3 meets plus Worlds in 2023:

VT:

An Chang Ok (PRK) 14.049
Lisa Vaelen (BEL) 13.616
Kim Son Hyang (PRK) 13.600
Oksana Chusovitina (UZB) 13.516
Camille Rasmussen (DEN) 13.433

UB:

An Chang Ok (PRK) 14.266
Lisa Vaelen (BEL) 14.000
Fien Enghels (BEL) 13.933
Maellyse Brassart (BEL) 13.666
Georgia-Rose Brown (NZL) 13.633
Kim Su Jong (PRK) 13.433

BB:

Ting Hua-Tien (TPE) 13.866
Maellyse Brassart (BEL) 13.400
Maria Tronrud (NOR) 13.233
Kim Su Jong (PRK) 13.200
Kim Son Hyang (PRK) 13.100

FX:

Emma Malabuyo (PHI) 13.166
Lisa Vaelen (BEL) 13.133
Laura Casabuena (ESP) 13.100
Kim Su Jong (PRK) 13.100
Margaux Dandois (BEL) 13.067

Obviously this list has limited usefulness because of the problems of comparing scores across meets, gymnasts for any reason not competing at the relevant events in 2023, not knowing who will actually be at the World Cups etc, but I thought it might offer a bit of a clue on some of the names we might see in contention.

The main takeaways seem to be that North Korea will be dangerous if they show up, and what a disaster their home World Championships was for Belgium.

Edited 10/12/23 because I forgot Georgia-Rose Brown's nationality change and because Fien Enghels has this week announced her retirement.

There are far too many individual spots. It’s when you see it laid out like that you realise. 8 groups is ridiculous.

Depends how many you think is too many. Athletics and Swimming allow every country to enter someone however far from competitive they are. There are already fewer individuals than in Tokyo, and from fewer countries - in WAG between 34 and 37 countries will be represented in Paris, down from 48 in Tokyo. There are likely to be more countries represented in women's boxing than gymnastics, including rhythmic and trampoline. On the MAG side there aren't enough individual places for all the potential medallists.

They have had 5 subdivisions and 8 mixed groups in 2012, 2016, and 2020 so nothing has changed in format.

Someone would have to pull up the stats but I swear the US is always in sub 1 or 2 for like the last 10+ years. Olympics and Worlds.

They've had some extremely favorable draws recently, especially in the 2016 quad. It is Romania that continues to get the worst possible draw every single time for the last decade.
