It is like they are trying to be a figure skating gala but with gymnastics. I don't know how figure skaters do the low light venue except maybe it isn't as dark as it looks on TV?

It's a competition with prize money.

I saw a few videos taken from the audience on Instagram stories where it looked a little lighter than in the videos from the stream. I also saw some taken from the audience where it looks just as dark as the stream. So maybe it depended on where you were sitting. There was a dark blue light on the rest of the arena and stands that the stream camera wasn't picking up at all, but it's visible in some of the fan videos.

It's still dark though. The gymnasts are sitting on the sidelines in the darkened area and then have to walk into the spotlight area and you only have like 30 seconds for your eyes to adjust before you start your routine.

The Swiss Cup will be just as dimly lit on Saturday, though it's in a bigger arena with glowing signage on the sides that adds a little more light.

The free stream is still available for re-watch for one more day: https://www.rsi.ch/play/tv/-/video/ginnastica-memorial-gander?urn=urn:swisstxt:video:rsi:1813128

I also think that the huge, specific shadows could be disorienting — enough that this is a safety issue for some gymnasts on some skills, where sighting is thrown off due to the shadows.

The signage worries me almost as much as the dark, honestly, as it can also make it hard to adjust vision/can be blinding. I suppose you can spot the blinding thing in the dark, but that's still scary.

I could see them turning off all the lights in an effort to “go sustainable” and forcing fans to purchase night vision goggles on top of the super expensive ticket prices. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Angela Andreoli posted on instagram that she's having knee surgery due to the injury she sustained at Arthur Gander Memorial.
Italy gonna Italy. But it there was ever a time to get injured, it is now

The team they field at major competitions always feels a little bit random because several of the major players are out with injuries. But they have the depth of ~8 gymnasts who can be called up at any time to compete, so even with almost half of them out, they can still contend.

Though even then, they were still injured out of the medals for the majority of this quad. A team with that level of talent should've won more than one silver, with Russia out of the way. IMHO a healthy Italy could've taken it right down to the wire with the US in Liverpool.
