Đinh Phương Thành was crowned double gold medalist on parallel bars and high bar for the THIRD TIME at Southeast Asian Games — 2015, 2019, and 2021(2022). Almost four times, because he just missed it in 2017 by getting silver instead of gold on HB. Incredible.

BUT

The parallel bars gold was a total scam, and not just because everyone knows Yulo is one of the best in the world. 8.933 for Dihn is completely unacceptable, especially when Yulo did a similar exercise with better execution, and was given 8.6.

Yamawaki, swing HS — nice
Makuts — clear leg separation 1
1/4 Stutz to side HS — unsteady 1
(could also take off for slight leg separation)
glide kip press HS on one rail — old school
1/4 pirouette grip adjustment 1
peach half — posture 1
(could also deduct for not quite hitting HS)
peach — arm bend 1, grip adjustment 1
Moy — okay
Half pirouette — posture (starts Bhavsar too early) 1
Tippelt — muscling it up, 1
(could easily take 3 here)
HS — unsteadiness (arm bend) 1
Healy + swing HS — arch 1
double pike — poor prep for landing 1, hop 1.
(Could also deduct lack of height and chest being down on landing)

That’s an 8.8, and that’s giving him the benefit of the doubt 4 times. There clearly was some bias in the judging here. Probably two judges helping him out.

Yulo was CLEARLY judged with a different pen.

The no leap series and no front grip bars skill are just inexcusable composition errors, imo.

Finnegan’s whole bars composition seems less than ideal to me, but maybe I’m missing something obvious. I was also shocked at how poor her bail to HS was.

This is me going “normal” toughness on Yulo.

Peach to one rail: bent arms 1, muscling 1
Healy
Makuts
Healy
Yamawaki — muscling up 3, arm bend 3
Moy
Bhavsar
Glide Kip to L — legs high 1 (silly error!)
Press HS hold
Half pirouette
Tippelt 1
Diamidov Completion of turn 1, Posture 1, Adjustment 2
Dismount chest 1 hop 1

E-score: 8.4. They gave him 8.6.

I would have had Dinh at 8.4 with the same pen. Yulo would have then won on difficulty.

So i’m guessing she thought she broke the switch leap - straddle connection (it was iffy - what do you guys think?). So after the turn she did a sissone to beat jump (which works in college but not in elite).

Did she get the dance CR?
