yes, Canadian! I don't go on FB anymore but I just checked and he's still active there and still a fan of the sport. He finally came out and seems to be living his best life.
I attended every U.S. Nationals from 2000-2003, and I remember meeting a poster named danafan (OOBN I believe, then GGMB?) who I became friends with. Then @Denn and I met in NYC in adult gymnastics classes and attended at least one American Cup together (maybe two? lol what is memory) as well as...
He certainly made it easy for them with that free skate, though. I'm honestly surprised they are sending him to Worlds and not giving someone else some experience.
I've been around since OOBN (late 90s? I think I started posting when I was like 14 years old) and usually posted as "Mincho" back then, and even into the earlier version of this board. I've met many of you at meets over the years too and have been chatting with some of you for longer than the...
What is the logic for giving Brown a berth on the Worlds team and making Naumov the alternate? The conversations behind the scenes in this sport must be even weirder than the ones in gymnastics...
I would love to see Hardie do well at Winter Cup and get to do the American Cup. The steady improvements she's making (huge upgrades from Nationals to selection camp for example) are good signs that she'll be in the mix this season.
I wonder who will be interested in going who we haven't already seen doing Winter Cup every year. I'm assuming none of the NCAAers are going to have elite routines ready.
Jordan Chiles still has the best DTY on the US team. Also the double layout bars dismount looks amazing on her. I'd love to see her back in elite this summer alongside a healthy Rivera, Jones, and Pease.
Having come up in the sport in the 90s, it boggles my mind that we have narratives like this (in a good way). Can you imagine someone missing the 1992 team after being age eligible since 1990, getting injured out of making the 1996 team, and then qualifying in 2000?
The argument that there is no "next level" after NCAA (despite stats here showing that the next level for football players is basically so gate-held as to be considered unattainable) so therefore they should do easy routines to not get injured (??) is antithetical to the idea of competitive...
Because it would separate out the teams more directly and make upsets harder to happen? Like in elite back when the good bars workers had a huge leg up in the AA because the range was so wide on that event?
